Drake has 2 transfers on scholarship that have to sit out this season (Graham Woodward from Penn State and Kale Abrahamson of Northwestern), so it seems they would not be as likely to redshirt too many of their 5 freshmen.
The freshmen are 6'1" combo guard Reed Timmer, 6'3" shooting guard Ore Arogundade, 6'9" Casey Schlatter, 6'11" Kory Kuentsling, and 6'2" point guard C.J. Rivers, and walk-on guard Dom Adduci.
My guess is that Kuentsling might be a redshirt candidate, but Timmer, Arogundade, Schlatter, and Rivers may need to play since they return only 6 scholarship players from last year's team.

No chance that Kuenstling redshirts. Ideally, he would, but he's one of only 2 guys on the roster capable of playing center, so Bulldogs will need him to give some backup minutes this season. Timmer and Arogundade will probably start. If anybody redshirts, it would be Rivers and/or Schlatter.

I based my guess of Kuenstling redshirting not on what position he plays, but on the fact he may be the Drake recruit least ready for D1. He is a bit thin, and he played at an extremely small high school (Dunkerton HS) with an enrollment of about 200 total students, and in a the small town of Dunkerton, population about 850, and in the smallest (Class 1A) class of competition in Iowa. He may be a great talent, but most of the players he is playing against were close to a foot shorter than he was.
Even several of your fans think he should redshirt, and I believe I have seen interviews with him where he has said he would be willing to redshirt.

It will be interesting to see if he is redshirted. From the little I know of him, he sounds similar in pedigree to Nate Wells, someone else who wasn't of Valley readiness. I won't begrudge Drake of playing him ahead of schedule, but we won't know as of now.
How embarrassed will Bradley be if he plays ahead of schedule if Wells continues to be a borderline D1 talent?Gotta stop feeding the trolls.

But instead we sought out Chris Blake from juco to play ahead of Wells - Blake didn't even have very impressive juco numbers.
But our complete lack of anyone else to play that position and XT's proneness to sit the bench with fouls - forced Geno to HAVE TO use backups - and he went with Blake.
I know it isn't scientific but had Nate Wells played Chris Blakes' minutes - I think he would have done as well or better than Blake.
Blake played 10 mpg & over 300 total minutes- and averaged
1.0 ppg, 2.4 rpg
if you extrapolate for Nate and multiply his number to show what he might have done with those same minutes, you come up with roughly...
2 ppg, and almost 4 rpg with half the turnovers...
Again - I know this isn't precise - but Wells could have given us more than Blake - who we ran Shayok & Crawford out just to get.

Even our starting center averaged only 3.4 ppg and 3.2 rpg last year. Since Will Egolf left, Bradley has gotten less from their "5" position than just about any team in the MVC. Let's hope that changes this season.
In looking at the Bradley statistics, I notice there is something strange.
A couple pages on the BU website appear to be fouled up.
Here is the page showing statistics for the 2012-2013 team (2 years ago)-
According to this official BU stats page, Tramique Sutherland was the starting point guard and the 4th leading scorer for the 2012-2013 Bradley team! Warren Jones, Kendahl Amerson, Jermaine Morgan, and Mike Shaw also appear as if they played on that BU team 2 years ago!
The 2011-2012 stats page has the same kind of errors on it, showing Omari Grier and Anthony Fields played for Bradley 2 years before they actually were eligible to play-
Obviously, those are the players' stats at the school they played at prior to their transfer to Bradley, but the numbers somehow got into the Bradley stat database by error. I have emailed the BU office to alert them of this.

Center might be the position on the court where looking at ppg and rebounds per game only, shows the least of the picture for their impact. Today's centers are the backbone of the defense. The ability to deter shots in the lane, rotate at the right time to the right spot, and recover to their man in a timely manner is so huge for that position. That's where I think Nate has shown the least so far, showing and recovering.
Sticks had similar issues doing center type things for three years before making positive impacts his final year. Sam Singh wasn't very good for his first two either before making large steps forward his last couple. Hopefully Nate makes a similar leap. He seems like a good kid.Gotta stop feeding the trolls.

Kudos to BP. The anomaly has been fixed.

I agree that a redshirt year would be the best for both him and the team, but due to the current roster, it's not going to happen. Having said that, I think his ceiling is very high. He's almost a year younger than most players in his class, has a frame that he can put a lot of muscle onto, he runs the floor well, and has a good shooting touch.

I bumped into a business acquaintance who is Ray Giacoletti's cousin - and he pointed me to this photo from an old article...
It pictures Joe Girardi #5, Joe's brother George #25, and Ray Giacoletti #14
Also pictured is Joe Girardi's dad Jerry standing at left
It is the Blessed Sacrament elementary school basketball team from a few years ago...
