It wasn't the zone so much as the time of the game that our young guys didn't fight through," Southern Miss coach Larry Eustachy said. "The tougher team won, that's for sure. When it really got tough, they made plays and we didn't. They play so hard."
This says alot about this team to me. It tells me that last year's NCAA run wasn't due to a few stars, but rather the whole program has learned to be winners. There's a hunger in their game to prove that it wasn't just P'OB, Cellus, TB & Boogie, but rather a team. There's also a bit of a swagger, but with a dash of humility thrown in. In college b-ball, I believe you can throw out the best and the worst a team puts on the floor on any given night & what's left gives you an idea of exactly who that team is. Looking at it in pure winning margin & throwing out Wright State & Michigan State, BU's winning margin on the season is 10.75 per game. I honestly don't believe many of us would have expected that from this team going into the season. I know I expected someone to "step up", in the Jerome Robinson vane, but they all are stepping up, which is amazing. This team has a chip on it's shoulder that hasn't been demonstrated at BU in quite a long time by my memory. It's not quite mid-term in the season, but so far they are grading out with a solid A.
"Bradley's better in person than on tape," he said. "They're harder to guard than Alabama and they really come after you on defense. They've got guys playing who've paid their dues in this program. I'm very impressed."
This is a heck of a compliment as well, but didn't another coach make a similar comment recently about how much better or quicker they are in person, than they looked on tape. GO BU!!
I had the same thoughts as I read the article, and over the past few wekks. These kids have adopted the personality of the coach....win at all costs.
The thing I like is that when other teams make a run, like USM did last night, they never get rattled. They appear to come down the court and play harder, and get better. The Bradley teams prior to Jim Les never showed that quality. In fact, most of the teams prior to JL played poorly in big games, TV games, and when pressure was on them. It's a great thing to watch!
I agree with Dave Snell, who has said numerous times that he thinks this team is the most enjoyable team to watch in recent memory.
I am really impressed with this team too. They are far exceeding my expectations for these season. Like in this game, there may be times when our defense or offense isn't quite working right. But we win because of that toughness. Staying in the game the whole way.
I liked the game too, especially that we won. But ... maybe someone who has seen more games than I have this year (and all I see is what's on the computer screen except for the ISU game) can help me out with this question. Is the team using as much motion offense now as it was in the earlier games?
Yesterday's game opened with J.J. making an awkward drive to hole which ended with a missed shot and then on the next possession, the Bradley player (maybe JC) did the same thing. It seemed as though there were more attempts last night to make things happen with penetration drives than passing the ball around the perimeter.

It did seem like we tried to drive alot which isn't all that bad if you can finish and/or get fouled. This team was quick but we were a half step quicker.
I didn't have a good look at the overall mvt from BU as I was too close to the floor DB...maybe others can comment on what they saw.

I fully agree Romar.
I have been regularly watching BU basketball since the Joe Allen era, and this team has a special quality that makes it one of the most enjoyable teams to watch in all that time.
There have been better teams, but this group of kids are so hard working, unselfish, and motivated to win.
They have the characteristics of their coach, and I love watching them.
Drawing 10,000+ on a Holiday weekend night during school break for a non-conference opponent seems to suggest I am not the only one who is enthusiastic about this team.
