  • Eustachy Challenges Dogsrus to fight....

As he is walking off the court he gets directly in my face and challenges me to "meet him and the end of the runway".

I was so stunned alls I could do was smile and laugh it off.

With about two minutes to go in the game he turned to me and told me to "shut the f*** up". Why I have NO idea. While I had seats tonite right behind the bench I stayed off his case as it would have been too easy to give him grief.

He really is a piece of work and I left the game feeling sad for him AND moreso his players. The guy called his own players CU*NTS and cussed so much he made a drunken sailor look tame. His mom sat behind us and I felt sad for her also.

Ken Kavanuagh thanked me after the game for keeping my cool. I apologized to him if I did anyhting to provoke the incident and he said flat out.....you did NOTHING wrong.

Look for a pjstar article tommorrow because Reynolds was their and witnessed this guys antics......

Its too bad because his players played well and gave BU a good game. He's got some serious issues and I worry that if he can't handle a game at BU with no students what will happen next.

I was right above DogsRus a couple rows and can attest that he didn't get on Eustachy's case at all, and there were no fans who were unruly or mean spirited in any way. I yelled at him more than anyone in section 12, and I just told him to stop yelling at his players. He was in their faces and kept screaming at a couple players the whole game.
I never heard a single person say anything about his celebrated penchant for partying, nor his battle with alcohol which has been quite public. There were very few students there, and none were on his case at all.
I agree with DRU, how is this "head case" going to handle the stuff he will get in his own conference? How long before he cracks? He is an embarrassment to So. Miss.

      Eustachy is a LOSER!

Interestingly, I'm reading a book on Bob Knight now. I'm hard pressed to find anything I like. Knight's behavior and Eustachy's described in this post are things I just hate. I don't care how much you win. I just can't respect how they treat their players.

I couldn't tell what LE was saying to his player's as they came to the bench from my upper bowl seats.....but I could tell by his body langauge and the way he grabbed the player's it was not nice! I do not want any coach of my team to howler at every player who comes off the court...it is negative and will not work on most young player's! I think JL has learned this since his 1st year on the hilltop......say what you have to but give them a pat on the rear and say .......let's get-em next time or something positive to keep the player in the game! Screaming at everyone to me is not the best example and I really like the way the Braves staff are handling the player's......last night JL got the T' for sticking up for his player's with JC getting knocked down on the court by elbows to the throat and getting non-calls........but he said he will work on it over Christmas to keep it from happening again! I know I wouldn't trade JL for any other coach......I'm proud to have him leading the BRAVES!

Hey, buzzard boy, I suppose the reason for your coach's firing at Iowa St was a pack of lies, too.

BTW, last night's game was not golf and 73 does not beat 83. And your RPI is what compared to BU's?

As I stated GE I have respect for your players. They played well and hard. I am not naive...I understand college coaches can get a bit nasty and many have different styles but this was X rated like I have never witnessed before.

He kept complaining his players were playing "soft"..fine. But after he pulled one player he got right in his face and told him "your a CU*T....your pu$$y a$$ will not see the f***ing floor again. This went on for 2 minutes and was just ONE example.

And at games end when he understood it was over he turned to me a screamed "shut the fu*k" up. I didn't respond. Gameover...he shakes hands with the opposition then walks directly toward me as I was putting my coat on and says "you f****ing pu$$y walk down at the end of this hall and I'll kick you're a$$. It was so pathetic alls I could muster up was a laugh which seemed to inrage him all the more.

Anyone on this board will tell you our own AD will NOT allow borish behavior and what he calls rudness from out fans in that section. He has scolded and reprimanded students for comments and actions during games. He sat one asile next to me and supported my "non-action" and thanked me for keeping my cool.

As other fans have stated not a single insult was tossed his way about his past discretions. I choose not to throw stones as I am no where near perfect myself. What bothers me was/is not the adult language and x rated show but if that guy ever has a meltdown with the wrong fan his career will end as a coach.

I wish him well and would hope someone would seek help for him. I felt bad for his mom sitting directly behind him and for what she had to witness.

Please don't compare Bobby Knight and Larry Eustachy. Knight is far and away a much better coach than LE ever will be. More so than that, Coach Knight has kept his head above water and done things the right way while others have had an anything to win mentality. It's sad that the only things most people ever see about Coach Knight is when the media shows him yelling, they will go out of their way to air a clip of him yelling and looking mean than show him teaching his players.

Coach Knight is one of the game's legendary coach's with one of the greatest senses of humor, and a great human being. Larry Eustachy doesn't hold a candle to Bob Knight, so please, please, please, don't draw them on the same level...
People need to recognize there is a huge difference between playing hard, and playing well...

                  WOW!

I couldn't hear anything he was saying.

I know he looked intense... but wow DRU.

That is funny.... if he had said it to me... I woulda laughed my arse off. (as I am doing now)

I'm sorry DRU. I would've taken the invitation. Maybe its my irish blood, but i would've "got down" with him. What a punk Eustachy is. You're more of a man than I am DRU as I would probably be explaining to my wife this morning why she had to bail me out of jail last night. I'm heated up right now just thinking about it. Oh well Merry Christmas!

ok seriously though, i'm on the court every single night, and he was by far the most vulgar coach i have seen. and i'm not attacking his coaching ability or the team, b/c they are talented as h*ll. A lot of those things said last night surprised me that his players didn't lash out at him and i was dissappointed in the use of language.
We're not sore winners, all we've done is compliment So. Miss for giving us a great game, kept everyone on the edge of their seats. And if previously read by any past statements about the game, we are pulling for your team to win. So good luck to your team in the future

I have really been taing a ribbing from my friends for NOT doing anything. Thats fine I probably deserve it but as I sit here today and reflect I'm glad I just laughed it off.

I'm a fan not a sideshow.....don't want my name in the paper for the wrong reasons. Even though I would have been exonerated by numerous witnesses IF I had "followed him down the hall" the perception among some that I did something to provoke the incident would have surfaced.

Your reponse is why I said I'm glad it was me and not someone with a shorter fuse....Uncle Larry would be out of a job had anything developed. As much as I don't care for the guy I don't want to be part of his collapse if/when it takes place.

You're right. There's no questioning Knight's ability to win vs. Eustachy's. Especially considering Knight's outstanding record. And Knight did seem to genuinely care about his players regardless of what he said.

But it's that extreme tough love that I question whether it has a place in coaching nowadays. It's not just when the cameras are on, but Knight cussed and yelled and degraded his players during practice too. Sure, he'd sometimes give the players encouraging words. But those were rare and momentous occasions for the players that would stun them. His players seemed to go through emotional rollercoasters.

I just think that too much of this negative reinforcement would eventually cause players now to tune the coach out or quit the team. There are different and, in my opinion, better ways to coach. I understand a coach needs to be tough, but I think a balance with positive reinforcement needs to be maintained.
