Reaching base in each of his first 22 professional games is a good way to start a
career. Murphy, a ninth-round pick by the Twins out of Bradley University last
month, has done just that, and bashed a league-high six homers in the process.
He also leads the circuit in batting, OBP, slugging and runs scored. Murphy has
been so good that last week's numbers are only a little better than his overall
stats, which is awfully impressive as he had 12 hits -- five for extra bases -- in
seven games for the first-place E-Twins."

BTW -- BP - here's a newspaper account of that game - note in that column they mention Wes Unseld's rebounding average - 23.3 rpg!

** One thing that clouds the possibility of other Triple Doubles - is that stats such as assists & steals were not accurately kept in the 40's, 50's, 60's when many players had
really high rebounding totals - and weren't reliably kept at most schools until the 1980's...
Even individual rebounding stats were not routinely kept for each game until 1951!

...thus a lot of players in that era might have had Triple-Doubles and we will never know.

After an incredible season with the Elizabethton Twins (average .378, OBP .483, SLG .723, and OPS 1.206), Max Murphy was named the Player of the Year in the Rookie Appalachian League. He played in only 35 games, which is only about half of the team's scheduled games.-

Max has already been promoted to the Cedar Rapid Kernels of the Class A Midwest League
