  • MVC Basketball Coaches Media Call

The Valley's 10 men's basketball head coaches will be participating in the annual summer media teleconference this morning. The teleconference will be streamed live on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=848I4...ature=youtu.be It starts at 10 a.m. and Geno is scheduled for 10:10. I suspect it will be archived on the MVC website later today.

Here are a couple articles that cover some of what was said in that media call...
..intereating that Geno laments the disappearance of BracketBusters - because it gave teams two decent, "built-in" games they didn't have to schedule
Page Not Found (404): It looks like you're lost... The page you are looking for no longer exists.

and a more detailed look at SIU - it touts their incredible depth, something our media touted here last year

It would make our schedule look a lot better this year. We didn't get the best draws in the BB, but at least it was something. At this point I'm for some sort of auto-assigned random schedule maker at the NCAA level (TIC). At least then we might get a non-con home game against a top half D1 opponent...

I find that hypocritical of the NCAA when they know these self proclaimed elite teams wont play teams that they feel are lesser than them but the NCAA says a team is not in the NCAA tournament because their RPI is not what it should be. They say they need to start playing better teams. Give me a break!

I just think it's ironic how many people complained about BracketBuster - and said it never benefited us...
now it's gone and we see lamenting that we don't have those games any more...

I think it is because the BB never did what it was designed to do, which was benefit our RPI and enhance the at-large profile of midmajor teams. Most years Bradley was matched against teams with far worse RPIs. But it did guarantee 2 games on the schedule against non-conference foes, including usually one at home each year. That's the part being lamented.

It's because we were never good enough to garner a top notch BB game. We simply were narcissistic to think that we were good enough to deserve to play any high mid majors in the BB. Therefore, we were consistently packed into the "regional bracketbusters" which made us not like the BB, but it was simply our lack of talent that put us in that spot.

You can argue that strong BB play along with consistently winning NCAA tournament game cemented Creighton's move to the Big East. So to say that it did not do what it was designed to do for us is an aberration because we did it to ourselves by not winning ball games. Simple as that.
