I have heard from someone who was at open gym with Gavin and some of the Bradley players today. He played very well. He was visiting with both parents (not sure if it was an official visit, probably not) and really liked Bradley. He is very interested.

I heard he was very interested at the state tourney. Hope we are also. Need to land those shooters and this kid can shoot.

will we sign our top target in November?

this thread is only a couple weeks old and many of the names that were said to be among our top targets - are now off the board........
so who is our top target?

The talk of recruiting has died down - but we're going to have a minimum of one and more likely 3 scholarships open in spring and at least half a dozen more for fall of 2015....

This is the first year I can recall that we had no fall commits nor likely BU recruits to follow during the basketball season..
I am not sure who we are currently targeting - virtually all the guys we have been targeting since last spring, thru the summer & fall...
have all verballed elsewhere...so I wonder if waiting 'til spring really means we are not currently targeting anyone and instead, just waiting...

Dave Reynolds mentioned these two recruits -
but I doubt we can compete for LoVett - and Stokes decommitted from Toledo thinking he would be able to go higher - and his early fall performances contribute to that probability - so I suspect both these guys may already be out of reach...

and we know at one time we were targeting Munis Tutu, but he won't sign 'til spring, and as one of the top rated unsigned point guards for 2015 - I think we may be out of the running for him as well...

If anyone hears of new names - post them!!

Here's a couple previously mentioned names:

Tyrell Bellot-Green - still hitting almost 60% on 3-pt shots, averaging 15 ppg, 7.3 rpg for 6-0 Hill College

AJ Patty - production has dropped off a bit as competition has improved, but still impressive...
            15 pgg, 9.8 rpg, 57% from 3-pt for 8-0 Vincennes - and does not foul a lot.

One other difference, though I am not sure of the significance, but to some fans it may seem concerning.

In the fall of 2012, we had a huge contingent of Chicago recruits (at least 10 of them) come down to the Red-White game on unofficial visits.

Dave Reynolds, in one of his moments of hyperbole, called it "A Defining Moment for Bradley Program", though I am not sure it has defined anything yet.

The actual PJ Star article that Dave wrote apparently has been deleted and is no longer available online, but we have a copy of the article if anyone wants to see it.

Then again in the fall of 2013, another sizable contingent of recruits (as many as 7) from Chicago marched into the Red-White scrimmage about 5 minutes after the start, and walked around the court and sat in the front row at midcourt. That group again included Josh Cunningham, and several other other BU recruits. In addition the Peoria Irish team, including at least 3 Bradley recruits also were in attendance.

This fall, 2014, there was no Red-White game, and we have yet to have any reports or sightings of any recruits at any of the games so far.

It has been reported that Kamau Stokes, a 2015 juco point guard recruit, is slated to visit for the North Carolina A&T game Sunday 11/23 and the Texas A&M-CC game Tuesday 11/25. But he was not even one of our original 2015 recruits, but apparently a later target after our first dozen or so point guard recruits fell through.

It would be nice to see talented recruits visiting again.

Alex O'Neill has a chance to develop into a D1 player, but he is not a Bradley recruit and never has been.
A.J. Youngman was also at a Bradley game this past week, but he was there on his own and not as a recruit. A.J. has been contacted by Bradley as a recruit, however, to some people's surprise, Bradley has not offered him.

it's been a month since any mentions anywhere as to who Bradley might be targeting with the scholarship or scholarships we will have this spring...
DR used to have some reports but none lately...

our needs are pretty much what they have always been...
-we still need depth at point guard - the kid mentioned most recently was Kamau Stokes -- a 2015 point guard but he's blown up a little

-then as always we NEED shooters and guys who can score - especially score from outside...but not much mention of anyone who we are targeting or anyone likely to be looking at BU

-and of course it wouldn't hurt to get some low post guys who can actually score or make a layup or a free throw...
one name was mentioned almost 2 months ago - AJ Patty -
his scoring numbers have fallen off a bit, and he's currently averaging 13.6 ppg and 8.6 rpg......but we need to stay with him...
One problem, he's a grad of the Illinois Wolves program - and we haven't gotten any Wolves players since we hired the Mac Irvin guy.

One other 2015 guy we went to Texas to watch - but reportedly we've backed off...
Tyrell Bellot-Green has also seen his numbers drop off a bit - 11.8 ppg, 5.7 rpg, but he's a very athletic 6-6 wing who hits 46% from the arc.

one 2016 kid, Washington's Lou Griffith (LINK), is one of the best scorers locally but his size may limit his DI recruiting

Update - Hill College is now up the #3 ranking nationally

Tyrell Bellot-Green still averaging over 15 ppg & 7 rpg
teammate Jermarrio Jones averages 13 ppg & 13 rpg!
sub Stefan Zecevic averages 6 ppg, 6 rpg

five different players on Hill average over 47% form 3-pt range!!!

I know no coach worth his salt wants to hear what the fans think about his recruiting but....

after watching last night I am going to post the criteria I would want for any future recruits...

#1- anyone we go after- whether high schooler or juco- has got to be able to play defense...he has to be known as a solid defender!
Right now our guys aren't all bad but we perennially give up wide open 3's and easy drives & passes into the lane for layups and slam dunks.
Just look at the numbers - we shoot 30% (way below average) from the arc but we give up 36%- well above average

#2- they have to be able to score - seems like a NO BRAINER, right - but look atthe guys we have on our roster!! Half our players did NOT even average double digits at high school, juco, or where they were playing before arriving at BU.
If a kid doesn't regularly put up 12-14 points OR MORE then he sure won't help much on offense at this level.
Amazing how many players who Geno has landed that did not even average that where they were playing the year before coming to Bradley..
(Chris Blake, Swopshire, Barnes, Morgan, Taylor, Zecevic, Fields, Wells, Hodges, Shayok, Shaw, even Grier - who was hyped like heck as a shooter and an incredible scorer only averaged 6 ppg in his year at FAU)
You got to get some scorers!

#3- and this one we have learned the hard way
PLEASE do not recruit disgruntled transfers (Grier, Fields), the well-travelled kids who have been at multiple prior schools (Hodges, Shayok, Zecevic), the kids who were kicked off their last team (Swopshire), kids with eligibility issues (Macari Brooks, Michael Tucker, Amerson, Blake), kids who were unable to earn a bit of playing time somewhere else so they come here (Barnes, Blake, Fields, Grier, Morgan), and kids with attitude issues who either just give up and hang their head when it ain't going well or throw elbows at opponents (Jones, Barnes, Taylor, Crawford).
Literally 75% of the players Geno has landed in four years fit these lists that I would stay away from.

#4 if at all preferable, get the kids that have at least 3 or 4 years of eligibility. We definitely have "too many jucos".

"High flying", "dunking machine", "versatile" (which appears to mean "can do a lot of things but isn't really good at any of them") and "freak athlete" are all nice, but we currently have a bench full of them.

I like the last line of your #5 . I for one would like to see us get kids like UNI, Wisc, Iowa get, kids who can shoot and play Defense. We may not be able to get kids who would go to Iowa or Wisc. but please tell me why we can't get kids who would rather go to Frost Bite Falls than BU. BU has put far more kids into the NBA than UNI. I'm not sure I can think of any kid who has played in the NBA and graduated from UNI. Can someone help me if I'm wrong but I can't think of anyone. I'm pretty sure no one has had an NBA career like AP, The Hawk, Roger, JL or Chet the Jet let alone many more who had more than just a call up or a drink.

You are correct, a quick google search yields:

basketballreference.com lists two players drafted from Northern Iowa, Bill McCoy and Pete Spoden.

realgm.com lists no players with any stats since the 1983-1984 season.

Also, they list Bradley with 38 draft picks and 19 with significant stats.
                              Gotta stop feeding the trolls.

I believe Northern Iowa is the only MVC team not to have ever had a player play in the NBA.
