Are you sure there would be that kind of traffic backed up for blocks way over on Parkside Drive for move-in? That is several blocks from the nearest student dorms. This backup was not related to students moving in. The caption by Kirk Wessler refers to a motorcycle parade.
That photo was taken Saturday, Aug 15 at 11:15 AM. Fall classes don't start until Aug. 26, and the residence halls don't even open until August 22

Ask around when all RA's, Greek Life, and generally upper classmen move in. I think you'll find it's the Saturday before Dorm move in every year. This year that is Saturday Aug 15th, the same day as Kirk's photo...

We are a year & a half from the infamous Main & University re-build...
and this fiasco has now reached such legendary proportion - it is now the standard of horrific that all other disasters are compared to!

Phil Luciano describes the current rebuild of the Forrest Hill/University intersection...
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Now that the Pawtucket Red Sox have officially ended their pursuit of waterfront land in downtown Providence for a new stadium, some Massachusetts officials said Wednesday the…

".....complete mess of University and Forrest Hill?.....
Will the newfangled University-Forrest Hill intersection mimic University-Main?
That’s what callers want to know. And they don’t see that kind of replication as a good thing. They fret and fume over their fear of backups and delays at University Street and Forrest Hill Avenue, where construction continues its makeover.
There will be a slowdown, but not to a glacier-like pace.
... a mile south..the junction of University and Main streets, where renovations still spark fussing and furor almost 1 1/2 years later...Everyone else — mostly, motorists who see streets as built for vehicles — hates the re-do..."

wonder why Phil never got involved in the year-long, snail-paced re-do of the Knoxville/Forrest Hill rebuild that snarled a lot of traffic endlessly?
Over in EP they built the entire Levee District shopping complex in less than that...LOL

Who was it that said the area business owners liked the rebuild of the Main-University intersection?

          Sure doesn't sound like it
To the editor: We’d like to respond to recent “letters to the editor” that were published insulting Catherine Jarvis, suggesting she have her constitutional right of free speech stripped and encour…

Saw this....Last summer, a release claimed the "rebuild" that was so unpopular had actually resulted in "improved statistics" on traffic and accidents ...

well, personally I was skeptical then and still am because that release and coverage by the PJ Star (6/30/2015) failed to really give any real data or references - just the claim that we should accept that things were better - even going so far as to say "vastly better".

But, just as I suspected....there's more to the facts that apparently were not being made known and are now provoking more issues and more construction elsewhere to hinder traffic flow.....
The Main/University changes are driving more people to drive and DRIVE FAST thru other areas like Moss Avenue & the Uplands...duh......
they are planning .."tweaks designed to alleviate vehicle backups at the intersection and traffic that cuts through.."

Now, they are proposing a bunch of new changes & construction over there to correct the situation and drive the volume of traffic somewhere else, I guess...
when is this gonna end? - it'll only cause more problems elsewhere - they should be looking for ways to get the traffic through there easier - not ways to make it HARDER and force the impatient drivers to scurry thru yet other neighborhoods...

            ....
Discussion at the December Peoria City Council meeting prompted Councilman Chuck Grayeb to report...
"In yet another vein, traffic analysis has been done for the MBRA area. The stats indicate that the reconfigured Main and University intersection rebuild has had little to no impact on the volume of traffic on Moss Avenue. In general, over the last 25 years, traffic has declined and now it has stabilized. Speeding continues to be an issue, however. Accordingly, we are taking the following steps:

In 2016, I have allocated money for a raised pedestrian crossing on the east side of Moss Avenue to slow traffic down. Enforcement will continue.
At my direction, we will be adding two permanent speed feedback signs on Moss Avenue west of Mac Arthur. There will be one for westbound traffic and one for eastbound traffic. The engineers are recommending that these signs be located between Institute and Cooper. Enforcement will continue. The engineers are looking at the logistics of the installation. Solar power will not work on Moss because of the tree canopy. These signs will be hardwired so that they will always be operational. I have asked staff to complete them before Christmas."

To me anytime a government body or Corporation covers up the real truth with false information that government group is a corrupt government. I want a government group whether it be at the local, State or Federal level to represent me and what I want. I don't want a few individuals doing what they want for themselves. People get out and vote these people out of office. Get someone in their who cares about their constituents
