  • Wichita State lands big man

a fairly obscure big man, 6-10 Rauno Nurger, from a small private high school, Sunrise Christian Academy...in Wichita, KS (actually Bel Aire, KS)
it is too late to sign a LOI but he has signed a financial aid agreement (scholarship agreement) and is possibly eligible right away.

this kid would be their 14th on scholarship and 7th incoming new guy.....
... if all the kids expected are going to be there in the fall - but Gregg Marshall tells the writer that he knows what's going on but won't say - so someone is either leaving or not coming in and going the prep or juco route..

Meanwhile Missouri State's Devon Thomas - who did a very good job as a backup PG for the Bears...
is leaving and transferring to Cloud County CC (juco)

Nurger decommited from Ole Miss recently. There are two possible options being bounced around right now that I'm aware of. It's possible that Nurger won't count as a scholarship player as he may not have been recruited per the NCAA definition and could then get academic scholarships or whatever. Sunrise Christian Academy has become a pretty good prep school that's been sending a number of kids to D1 the past few years. This years team sent 2 to Michigan State, 1 to Arizona State, 1 to South Florida and now 2 to Wichita State. I may be missing some as well.

The other possibility that has been mentioned is that Eric Hamilton may take a prep year at Sunrise instead of redshirting. All of our other freshmen have already taken a prep year or redshirt and we also have two JUCO bigs so playing time would be limited for him most likely.

With all of that said, we still have no clue if either of the above is what will happen and we have no idea when we'll find out. But Nurger appears to be a pretty good addition at 6'10" and 240. Can use either hand around the basket and step out and hit the three which is fairly typical of European players.
