Willard was a neighbor and he and his family were close friends of my family. He also did pencil sketches (heads only) of all members of that team. A lilmited edition was made available to the general public and, as a rabid pre-teen BU fan, I was able to secure a complete set. They're stashed away in a box somewhere and Wessler's column has inspired me to begin the hunt. -
I have a basement full of old Bradley memorabilia -- of course way more value to me than anyone so I have never looked to sell anything...but as other peoples' lifetime collections are put up for sale or if I hear about someone - even fans who collected stuff since grade school - I try to buy or obtain and have accumulated quite a bit...
one of the restaurants that was where the Fieldhouse is now - but a few years ago - also looked to buy some Bradley memorabilia...
and the guy came to my home and looked at my stuff -- he did buy a few items but he was so bummed by how many eras the stuff spanned - from the Famous Five thru Squeaky, the 50's & 60's, and ll the Fieldhouse memorabilia....that he didn't know where to start...
anyway - that was one of those restaurants that only stayed open a few months then folded - so by the time he even got the first batch that he bought from me on display (some tickets, game programs and lineup cards, pics, autographs from the 50's) - he went under and never bought any more...
I don't even recall the name of that restaurant but it was right there are the corner of Main & Univ. right after the remodeling and construction of Campustown....but it didn't last very long..
when the museum was being constructed downtown I did get a call also from someone wanting to know what I had that might be something they could display as museum items from Peoria's great past -- of all the items I had he only wanted some jerseys and warmup jackets I had (some were local high schools) but he expected them as a donation or on-loan - and gave no guarantees of what would be done with them or if they'd ever be returned when not on display - so I was not interested...
prob when I die all my stuff will go to my kids but if anyone else would have more interest - I'd have no problem willing it to someone who'd value it like I do...
