For anyone who might not remember, Houston is coached by Tom Penders who was one of the several Digger Phelps/Billy Packer/Gary Williams clones who came out of the woodwork last spring and trashed the Missouri Valley, and even Bradley in specific, claiming his team was robbed of an NCAA bid because too many teams from the Valley got in.
Of course Penders was proven wrong when two MVC teams got to the Sweet Sixteen while his Houston team made an early exit and got bounced from the NIT.
Last night in Hawaii, Creighton put a little exclamation point onto the MVC's response to the unrepentant Penders, who has steadfastly refused to recant his trashing of last year.
He still thinks his team is better than anyone in the MVC.
Houston must be a little bit shorthanded, as they play only seven players, and one of those guys played only 6 minutes.
THREE of Houston's starters played the whole way (40 minutes) after also playing the full game the night before.
Nate Funk had an off game scoring 8, while Dane Watts had 21 and Anthony Tolliver had 10 and only 2 rebounds.
Josh Dotzler played (26 minutes) despite dislocating some fingers in the previous game, so I have to give him the gutsy award.
