  • Trivia question: NBA & ABA Champs

Question #1 - Has any team won BOTH an ABA Championship and an NBA Championship?

Question #2 - Could it happen this year?

The answer is right here - just mouse over to see it...

#1 - No, the Champions of the ABA during it's 8-year run were -
Pittsburg Pipers, Oakland Oaks, Indiana Pacers (three titles), Utah Stars,
    New York Nets, Kentucky Colonels.
Of the ABA teams, only the Pacers, Nets, Spurs, and Nuggets we absorbed
by the NBA so no team has ever won both an NBA title and an ABA title.

#2 - Could it happen this year?
Well, you'd first have to know which teams in the NBA ever played in the ABA and which won a title there.
Only the Pacers, Spurs, Nets, & Nuggets were also ABA teams, and among them only the Indiana Pacers won an ABA title.

So the answer is...........Yes, the way the Pacers are playing they
could win the NBA title this year and become the first team to win both an
    NBA & ABA title.

One more piece of trivia on the Spurs....although it's already getting pretty well known...

Virtually their entire lineup - certainly almost all their key players - were born outside the USA...most never played college ball..

Tim Duncan - born in Virgin Islands but did play at Wake Forest
    Tony Parker - France
    Boris Diaw - France
    Manu Ginobli - Argentina
    Tiago Splitter - Brazil
    Marco Belinelli - Italy
    Patty Mills - Australia
    Cory Joseph - Canadian
    Aron Baynes - New Zealand
Only Kawhi Leonard, Danny Green, and a couple of the deep subs are American born! Gregg Popovich was born in the US but both his parents were born in Europe and immigrated!
