Seems the lack of any significant head coaching experience was no longer of importance ..

Maybe I'm missing something here and tell me if I am. I don't think head coaching experience usually isn't need for an assts. job. As for your last sentence didn't we try that once and we all know how that worked for us. Don't think we'll do that again.

wily - it is just a comparison in which I am wondering if the job requirements are negotiable or are they as stated in the job posting?

In the WBB example the job was posted making significant DI head coaching experience a requirement - many possibly outstanding candidates might have been eliminated or failed to apply because of those requirements. Then we end up hiring a guy, promoting from within who does not have those requirements.

Now the current job is posted requiring "coaching experience at the collegiate level" - but being a DBO really is not a true "coaching position".
Personally I have no concern that Geno will pick his own choice, the best man for the job (or at least I have faith that's the way it will go and that he won't be required to go with someone else's pick as our last coach was required to do more than once.)

If Geno were smart he would hire Kevin Brown to fill the open assistants job. What we need is someone to coach this "talent." Brown will get in their grill, work them hard and make them accountable. He won't stand on the sidelines and clap his hands (Geno's favorite move) when turnovers and missed defensive assignments are happening. Pretty soon those will go away. Let's see what Brown can do for us!

I think the only way a high school coach gets hired is if he has some player connected to him that could be a landable recruit...thus Brown is nowhere in the picture
