  • Trivia - match the records with the coaches...

Each of the following is the W-L record plus the Conference W-L record of several familiar coaches during their tenure at certain schools -
see how you can do matching them up with the names listed below....

    ....overall record....conference record....
    #1- 71-60 (.542), 36-36 (.500) - and currently being hailed as highly successful
    #2- 101-97 (.505), 40-68 (.370) - currently being hailed as a savior
    #3- 210-101 (.675), 89-65 (.578 ) - fired for poor performance
    #4- 154-130 (.542), 74-88 (.457) - fired
    #5- 139-69 (.668 ), 69-39 (.639) - just hired away but was underappreciated
#6- 150-140 (.517), 82-65 (.558 ) - his fans have wanted him gone the past 3 seasons but still there
    #7- 74-63 (540), 30-42 (.417) fans are still very supportive
#8- 28-36 (.438 ), 15-21 (.417) worst numbers on this list but being hailed as successful and a candidate to get hired elsewhere
#9- 47-51 (.480), 25-29 (.463) - barely any different than the fired guy in #4 but instead just got a pay raise & extension
#10- 63-41 (.606), 32-20 (615) very good numbers, even a Sweet Sixteen but his fans wanted him fired
    #11- 174-152 (.534), 110-88 (.556) - fired - fans griped endlessly
#12- 79-102 (.436), 40-62 (.392) this is the same guy as above but this time his fans thought he was doing a great job
#13- 68-37 (.648 ), 35-13 (.729) - among the best numbers on this list but they were reluctant to pay him much so he was hired away
#14- 37-62 (.374), 16-38 (.296) - among the very worst numbers on this list but many of the fans seem to want more of this...

Curious why you think Buzz Williams was under appreciated, by the MU fans or the media? The Marquette fans loved him and felt a punch in the gut when he left. I would agree that the national media didn't give him the respect he deserved for almost always putting MU in the tourney. The bigger shame is the hype that Wojo is getting now which is purely a product of the Duke pedigree. I hope Wojo succeeds, but if he also left some more talent in Chicago for BU to get too...

I think Buzz was underappreciated by a lot of people - especially the media, some of whom were stunned that he would be a candidate for a higher paying, better job (he was just 9-9 in the BE)...

and even his own Athletic Director had little respect for Buzz and would have liked to see him gone as would some of their fans (see 2nd link)...

        25 years ago TODAY....
April 29, 1989, Jim Molinari got his first head coaching job...after just losing out for the ISU head spot to Bob Bender.

...and who replaced Jim Molinari under DePaul head coach Joey Meyer as the top assistant coach?
It was former BU assistant and current SLU assistant Jim Platt...

The overall record of 71-60 is a bit misleading because of all the creampuff guarantee games plus the 13-19 record in 2011-12 is not officially on Lavin's tab as his assistant stepped in but those were his players.
Plus - he has had plenty of top recruits and even 4-5-Star studs - even one kid who was ranked #1 in the nation - but his player turnover has been incredible - he's bringing in a ton of new guys again this fall...even showing desperation by courting this kid who has been booted from TWO different programs with rape allegations!! - LINK

Anyway -- now he is pleading with his impatient fan base and media critics...
          "give us three more years.."
