Michigan's Mitch McGary caught by NCAA drug screening

Mitch McGary wasn't even playing but he still had to give a random specimen during the NCAA Tournament - and McGary got caught with a positive result that requires a ONE-YEAR BAN from playing.
He's therefore going in the NBA Draft - something he should have done last year when his stock was way higher - but he'll probably still do OK...

I would want to know how often they test. There is a strong likelihood that quite a few student athletes partake in the use of marijuana. I went to college I saw it first hand. Without getting into an argument (only using this as an example because everybody knows what happened) what is the difference with say Will Egolf and his suspension and this one? To me the two are related but handled so differently by the NCAA. Not saying anyone is right or wrong I think the biggest problem is this is just another inconsistency by the NCAA.

nobody cared if it was a Ray Brown caught with this rule but every national-level sports writer is crying foul/rule-has-to-go because this time it was a significant player

Back when this same rule that nabbed Ray Brown - the local sports column seemed to support the NCAA rule then and said Brown got what he deserved...
Hmmm...
why such an about face now and sad claim that the NCAA rule is unfair?
