Although things could change if NCAA re-alignment continues....
Here's an example that could have relevance....
Maine men's basketball moved from their on-campus arena to a big downtown (Bangor, ME) arena...
they are very pleased as they saw both their MEN'S and WOMEN"S basketball attendance increase by 12 to 28%.
They are not alone - many schools are showing significant increases.....
Here's news that defies the "convention" that everyone is down this year....
- despite a substantially down year talent-wise in the MVC for all but one of the teams - SEVEN of the current MVC members actually showed an attendance INCREASE over last year!!
And an EIGHTH team that was an MVC team last year, Creighton, also showed a substantial increase in average home attendance.
Big Ten release points out that the league had a huge increase in attendance - and 2013-14's numbers (average home crowd) was the largest since 1999 and the 3rd largest since 1971!!!
And this despite newcomer Nebraska, historically a "football school" being added!!!
despite claims that everyone's attendance is down due to factors common to everyone...
we are now seeing plenty of facts arguing otherwise....
Attendance at the Final Four hit an all time high and broke all past records...
Attendance at almost all the regional sites was at or above expected levels...and revenue generated for the local communities was outstanding
With the MVC headed into a year where a lot of the talent returns - it would sure be nice to see this trend continue...
