Originally posted by Da Coach View PostThat is a lot of jucos, and a record proportion of players in the same class. Our junior class was already the largest class, by far, among our rostered players, even before signing 4 more jucos this year.
For those who may not have noticed- here is how our roster breaks down, with 1 scholarship left to give:
Freshmen- 1 -
Donte Thomas
Sophomores- 1 -
Xzavier Taylor
Juniors- 10 -
Ka'Darryl Bell
Anthony Fields
Mike Shaw
Omari Grier
Nate Wells
Tramique Sutherland
Kendahl Amerson
Warren Jones
Jermaine Morgan
Darrion Harris (non-scholarship)
Seniors- 1-
Auston Barnes
Great gets by the program today and I look forward to Jones lighting it up from the arc and Morgan banging down low!

Well, I'm pretty pleased with these signings! So with those two locked up, who else are we looking at besides JC? And is confirmed he is making his decision tomorrow, because everything I have read says this week which could mean Friday as well?

It is possible Morgan has 3 years left...he graduated high school in 2012 then went to Moberly Area CC. He did not play in 2012-13 then played last year.
You never know for sure - as was the case with Chris Blake but it would appear he might have 3 years left.
and I have no problem with juco kids - never have - note a couple people on this board were calling the Jones & Morgan commitments quite early today - hours before anyone else...and there was NOTHING but positives and a clear satisfaction that we had landed a couple of the best players available!
...and I do not understand why anyone would blow a gasket and rant about having too many jucos - especially if they are good and can carry your team to the Sweet Sixteen.
If we get some production out of them and they stay - then we will have a strong senior class next year and hopefully a chance to do some damage in the MVC.
Even Jim Mattson just tweeted he has disappointment at all the jucos and lack of high school players
I doubt we will even offer the remaining scholarship until we hear Josh Cunningham's choice - then we go shopping if we don't land Josh.

And I'll say it again, I am just fine with the unbalanced classes so long as we are competitive the next two years. If we miss on a bunch of these people and they need time to get comfortable but they are gone after two years, then it was a bad thing to go so juco. As of right this instance I am very glad and we will have to see if it burns us or makes our star burn bright.
A good day in bradley basketball today if you ask me. Can't wait for tomorrow and next yearGotta stop feeding the trolls.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Greg Marshall has had some success with bring in quite a few juco kids. Why can't it work for us. On another note, dacoach post in the recruiting thread last fa Morgan would have 3 years of eligibility left because he redshirted his first juco year so I'm saying he's coming in with 3 years left.

The reason Marshall has been able to maintain success with a decently large number of jucos is he hasn't missed very often on either those jucos or his high school recruits or his transfers. That truly is the key, finding players that fill needs and can fit the system with the talent to perform at this level. I don't think any of the guys we have gotten this year will be misses, but I have thought that about other people recently. I can only be glad with this recruiting cycle's progress so far. Go braves.Gotta stop feeding the trolls.

I heard from a source close to Jermaine Morgan that Providence and Virginia Tech were coming on hard at him and wanted him. So he could have gone to a higher program, but because of what happened to him at Colorado State and then Washington State, he wanted to go with a coach he was familiar with (Coleman).

Even if Bradley doesn't land Josh Cunningham, and I think they will, I like this recruiting class significantly better than last year's, which was called stellar. As most people here have probably seen, I never agreed with that overly optimistic assessment. There was a little too much overhype, and unproven factors with guys like Swopshire, Zecevic, and Blake, as well as with the 2 transfers. The players BU landed this 2014 class have a much more solid, proven track record, albeit not at D1 level. Things may still not develop like we all hope, but I actually feel Geno and the coaches have done about as well as they could have with what was available this late.
Now lets close things out with a commitment from Josh Cunningham.

he has, no doubt, had some key players who were juco kids....but they were not obscure spring leftovers - they were top notch, highly rated kids he signed early like Carl Hall, Cleanthony Early, and Darius Carter.
As I look at his rosters, he's never had more than 3 or 4 juco kids and rarely more than 3 of them getting key playing time.
He has largely built his success with the four and even five year guys...Toure Murry, Garrett Stutz, Van Vleet, Baker, Cotton, Williams...
But as I said elsewhere - I don't care if we have a dozen juco kids as long as they are good players who contribute to our success..and not a revolving door of underproductive players added on every spring them sent packing the next spring...

Dave Reynolds has some updated info about Warren Jones and Jermaine Morgan-
I have confirmed that Jermaine Morgan does have 2 years of eligibility left to play at Bradley.
He originally enrolled at Moberly Area College in 2012, but he chose not to play and intended to sit out his first year there. That would normally allow him an extra year of eligibility, but then he transferred in the middle of his freshman season to Odessa College in Texas, the same juco Auston Barnes played at last season. He joined Odessa late in the 2012-13 season, but then played in 7 games, and averaged 4.0 ppg.
Even though he only played in 7 games at Odessa, and then transferred back to Moberly for his sophomore year, that counted as a full year of eligibility used up in 2012-13. Thus after playing the 2013-14 season at Moberly, he has now used up 2 years of eligibility.
