  • Wisconsin player leaves team

Phillip "Mickey" Perry, one of the top Illinois prep players from the Class of 2005 (Maywood Proviso East) has left the Wisconsin Badgers.
(Perry even broke some of Michael Finley's records at Proviso!)

Perry redshirted last season as a freshman at UW, then looked very promisinig during the Badgers' summer tour to Italy, when he averaged 7.2ppg and hit on 60% of his FG attempts.
Since then he has been edged out on playing time by a couple of true freshmen.

Perry has seen his playing time shrink, and lately making only token appearances, and not even getting time in some of the blowouts.

Presently Perry is 12th on the team in playing time, averaging only 3 minutes per game, but has only appeared in 7 of the Badgers' games,
In the only game he has played more than 10 minutes, Perry was 4-4 and scored 8 pts in an 11/09 exhibition.

In last week's game vs. Pitt, Perry got only 30 seconds of action. Apparently he has decided he would like to find a place to play more.
In most games true freshman, SG Jason Bohannon is getting upwards of 20 minutes and I guess Perry saw the writing on the wall.
Pretty bold statement to leave the team right now, as they are one of the Top 5 ranked teams in the nation, and by leaving in mid season, he will likely have only 2.5 years left to play elsewhere, and not be eligible until mid-year 2007-2008.

Anyone think ISU would be interested in this guys?
I cannot imagine BU even considering it since we have far superior kids like Maniscalco, Fears, DeAaron Williams, and (down the road) Daniel West coming in.

I can't see Porter not bringing in 2 big guys with the last 2 schollies, but sure enough ISU is listed for Perry:

Perry will transfer in good academic standing, a source close to the program said. Some of the schools that Perry is considering transferring to include Illinois State and Saint Louis, the source added. He will have to sit out a year, per NCAA transfer rules. He will be eligible to play during the second semester of next season.
