funny that in a column today by Phil Luciano he attacks and criticizes the former police chief - but mainly for not being open and honest and telling us all the reasons he's quitting.
Maybe it's the substantial increase in pay, maybe it's the relentless attacks and criticism from people in the press...

Either way, the two thoughts I have are...
-He doesn't owe us any further explanation. People quit and move on all the time. Newspaper people quit without owing us an explanation. Public figures likewise.
-But had he been open & honest and really told us the reasons, do you think for a milli-second that Phil Luciano wouldn't have found something in that answer to criticize and attack?
They will find a successor but one thing won't change.

For those not in Peoria, here is an update-

The ACLU has taken the case of the parody Twitter user who riled up Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis, which lead to multiple warrants being issued, and the full force of the Peoria Police Department raiding his home and confiscating his property, despite the fact he has never been charged with anything. They have filed a suit on his behalf, claiming his constitutional rights were violated.-

Shortly after the ACLU press conference this past Wednesday, Mayor Ardis held his own hastily arranged press conference, and claimed he was the victim, and his rights were violated, and that he is planning his own lawsuit. He didn't stop there. He blamed the media for distorting the story and not reporting the truth. And he tried to shock everyone by reading some of the vulgar tweets containing obscenity and slang words for private body parts. -

Now these latest happenings have brought further embarrassment and shame on Peoria, and Ardis. This Word on the Street column by Chris Kaergard and Nick Vlahos of the PJS pretty well sums up what I think about these latest events.-
Mr. Mayor, we realize these last few months — call them “Me and the Twitter” — haven’t been easy. The proprietor of a parody Twitter account in your name has sent several dozen profane, stupid messag…

I'm not sure what is more sadder or stupider, the ACLU supporting the right to say this kind of crap or our wonderful Mayor's continued insistence of giving this guy what he wants, more publicity.

Typical ACLU. Don't blame the Mayor for fighting this type of scumbag stuff.

anyone can sue anyone....I doubt neither this guy nor the ACLU wants to actually go to court and drag it all out .. just a typical bunch of lawyer-speak

as cited earlier in this thread...only 2 to 4 % of all cases ever go to trial...and in civil cases it is probably closer to the 2% .. meaning nobody really wants to take it to a trial...they just want to make a statement and hope to get something in a settlement.
I actually tried to find even one example of an ACLU case going to a jury -- and couldn't find one - meaning almost all (100%) got settled, dismissed, or arbitrated
ACLU gets involved just to throw their weight around and let everyone know what their demands are...
