Heck yeah! His high school coach said this about the kid-
Very athletic, very gifted," Crowder said. "Has all that. He is just an all-around player. He's an athletic (Doug) McDermott."

So he is a more athletic version of Doug McDemott!
Looks like a good player to get, but somehow I do not think Doug's records are in jeopardy.

He is under the radar and none of the recruiting sites have him listed. This is about the only article I can find about him-
The state of Texas has a surplus of talent, and Austin Weiher may be the next great player from the Lonestar state that is surfing under the radar.

It looks like he is from Covington, Washington, before he went to the Creating Young Minds Academy in Texas. There he was listed at only 6-6-
Check out Austin Weiher's high school sports timeline including updates while playing basketball at Kentwood High School (Covington, WA).

Here is a video from earlier this season-
Austin Weiher (6'8", 210lbs, F, Senior - Class of 2014), CYM Academy athlete versus Eastfield College and Southwestern Christian College (DI Juco) during the...

as noted two fairly key players at SIU are leaving and transferring

Mike Balogun, a sub who played in almost every game & Marcus Fillyaw, starting point guard who was out a while with injury.
Some interesting reasoning in this article...

Earlier this afternoon, Dave Reynolds tweeted this-

At present, shooting guard Kendahl Amerson of Utah State-Eastern is only BU committed spring recruit. That should change in the next week.

I suspect Dave is hearing some of the same rumors I have heard- Bradley has 2 more available scholarships (the 2 freed up by the departures of Zecevic & Swopshire), and our coaches are very optimistic about getting commitments from a couple more kids this week or next. Kendahl Amerson should return his signed NLI, and the coaches are hoping to get 2 more out of the remaining top tier of recruits that include Josh Cunningham, Milik Yarbrough, Warren Jones, and Dontavious Sears. Their next tier includes a couple other juco kids and a couple under-the-radar high school kids. I am hearing that at least one of these other recruits may be a big man, the others are wings and combo guards.

Don't mean to nit pick but we have three unfilled scholarships right?

Lemon, Picket, Prosser, Blake, Zecevic, Swopshire - 6 new openings.
Amerson, Thomas, Sutherland - known commitments.

Or am I missing something? I concede that is entirely possible.
              Gotta stop feeding the trolls.

Yes, that is what was meant- 3 available scholarships. Sorry for the typo.

Sorry to raise stink over nothing, but you are always in the know about things, and I wanted to make sure you hadn't heard something I hadn't seen reported anywhere yet.

other than Cunningham and maybe Yarbrough, there's not a lot of names left over this spring that everyone is chasing....even then, after hosting a few and still not getting verbals - we may be into our 2nd tier of prospects -
this is already sounding a lot like last spring and we know how that turned out.

Watching that video of SIU's newest recruit, he looks like a project, at best. And certainly not the next Doug McDermott. I'd be surprised if he doesn't redshirt next year. Maybe he is just auditioning for a sports editor's job at the Peoria Journal Star.
From PJ Star sports expert Kirk Wessler in his Jan. 10, 2012 column following 8th loss in a row at Drake-
"Yes, the Braves are better than they were when the season started two months ago. By a light year or two, they??™re better."

And from the PJ Star 4/26/12, Dave Reynolds-
"Fields and Grier both appear to be difference makers. If Bradley continues to add the right players around them, happy days may be ahead for the Braves after a long dry spell."

I don't know if he's a more athletic version but I can see some similarities to Doug McDermott
                          ...he's right handed ... he's white .... uhhh

Dave Reynolds with a pre-NLI signing article- nothing really new, but summarizes the current state of the BU recruiting-

The only thing we know for sure at this time is Kendahl Amerson - not listed by many of the recruiting services - will take one of the open scholarships and should sign a LOI.

But here we are into the signing period again sitting on open scholarships... every spring - seems we are late filling our roster every year, which can lead to accepting leftover players who were not your first choices.

By this time last year at least Mike Shaw, Jordan Swopshire, Chris Blake, and Auston Barnes had already committed.
A lot of schools have their scholarships already all committed and are done recruiting, some still looking to fill one or two open scholarships - but we're sitting on three. Let's hope we can get some good news.
