Jim Molinari resigns at Western Illinois- Billy Wright hired
I ran in to Mo at O'hare today as he was boarding a flight to Lincoln, NE. Congratulated him on the new gig and reminded him that his friends in Peoria wished him well.
Nice coincidence Houston!
Here is a brief video from WMBD of Billy Wright at his introduction as WIU's new coach-
a couple things just made known - oddly Billy Wright's contract at WIU is currently a ONE YEAR contract offer... "....by way of the Freedom of Information Act.
The deal on the table is for one year and pays him $10,417 a month or
roughly $125,000 a year. He's also eligible for annual increases and will have
the use of a university assigned vehicle. The contract is not finalized and both
parties have a 30-day window to iron things out."
also the top guy they surely wanted to lock down was the Summit Freshman of the Year - and perhaps their best returning player - Garrett Covington. "Star freshman Garret Covington could have transferred but he plans to
stay loyal to his new head coach, and that's not terribly surprising
considering the fact Wright recruited Covington to Western two years ago
when Wright was the program's associate head coach.
Covington is looking forward to what the future holds.
"So far we had our first individual (workout Wednesday) and I like
everything that's going on right now. He feels like the right guy for the
spot," Covington, the Summit League 'Newcomer of the Year,' said.
... prior to Wright being named head coach he took a wait-and-see
approach to determine whether or not he'd come back for his sophomore season."
Heard tonight BW got another recruit but can't find anything on who it is. Heard he was a big or a wing. Anyone heard who it is?
Billy Wright got a commitment from a kid from the high school he used to coach at- Indianapolis Pike HS- 6-7 senior Kendall Rollins committed to Western Illinois on Wednesday. Rollins 8.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.8 blocked shots and 2.0 assists in 24 games for Pike as a senior.
Billy Wright is getting the job done recruiting- he gets a verbal commitment from a pretty good power forward from Pike HS in Indianapolis (where he iused to coach).
