  • Jim Molinari resigns at Western Illinois- Billy Wright hired

After Western Illinois tried to renegotiate with Head Coach Jim Moinari, it became official tonight that Jim will resign and take the top assistant coaching spot at Nebraska.

One new twist- According to Dave Reynolds, Billy Wright, a former Bradley Brave, and former assistant coach under Jim at WIU and current assistant coach at Ball State, is interested in the WIU job.

I'd have to think Billy Wright and Matt Margenthaler are among the top candidates to replace Mo

Congrats to Mo - shows how much a guy can be in demand if he's good at what he does...
interesting that this was first reported here long before anywhere else - kudos Bravesfanchicago

Congrats to Coach Mo. Wish he would have stayed at WIU but completely understand his move. Hope WIU take a good look at Billy and Matt.

I have heard Mo signed (or will sign) a 4 year contract to work under Tim Miles. His salary will be substantially more there than it would have been at WIU. And I have heard his duties will be primarily coaching defense, and little or no recruiting duties.

Sounds right up his alley. One of the better defensive minded coaches we've had here.

not an official list of candidates, but a list of possible names as replacement for Mo by the local writer...

PJ Star article about Billy Wright being named to replace Jim Molinari as head coach at Western Illinois-

One strange facet- the PJ Star article completely omitted the fact that Billy Wright played at Bradley.

DC, if it was skipped, it is in there now.

Yes, the article initially ended after the 6th paragraph with no mention of Bradley
But it has now undergone a re-write with more info added. They now acknowledge he played at Bradley-

the first thing Billy Wright might do is try to find someone who can help recruit a few kids out of Chicago, Billy knows Indy, and then he'll need a guy with juco connections - be interesting if he keeps some of the guys Mo had as assistants

Billy Wright one of my 5 favorite Braves since I followed BU hoops avidly in 1994. Good for him.
Loved those BU teams from 1994-1997.

My Top 5 Braves in last 20 years:
                            Billy Wright
                            Anthony Parker
                            Deion Jackson
                            Phil Gilbert
                            Will Franklin
                            ---
                            2nd team
                            JC
                            POB
                            Jerome R.
                            The Predator
                            Sammy M.

Yeah, there's more, but they are just my favorites for different reasons.

I ran in to Mo at O'hare today as he was boarding a flight to Lincoln, NE. Congratulated him on the new gig and reminded him that his friends in Peoria wished him well.
