I live in a metro area that is about 30x the size of little 'ol Peoria. So I'm the one that should be cracking jokes about your little hick town. However, I'm not doing that because those types of stereotypes are outdated and juvenile. It just shows that you can't debate with facts, so you have to resort to personal insults. Childish, but typical from someone that has nothing to back up their smack with.

So exactly how small do you think Peoria is? According to the 2000 census, "little 'ol Peoria" has a population of 347,387.

And since when does football determine the quality of a university? After all, you're the one who came on our site, and started talking junk about football. Just for the record, we're playing basketball tonight.

I hope we win by thirty tonight. Who knows, afterwards we might see your coach trying to break into our sorority houses to hit on our girls? Too bad for him most students are home on break...
People need to recognize there is a huge difference between playing hard, and playing well...

I still think this S. Miss. guy is just a local guy having fun with this board. If he is really a S. Miss. graduate he apparently took quite a few courses in how to act like a goof. Mr. Eagle, if you are really a S. Miss. guy I want you to know that I turned down your school's offer to enroll in a Ph.D. program when I found out that it was looked upon as a second/third tier program.

Again, Bradley doesn't even come close. You are nothing but a small-time commuter school. If Bradley was in MS, you would be labeled as Junior College.
If Bradley was in Mississippi, it would be the best school in the state.

Don't like US News? Fine, let's take a look at the Princeton Review....

Average ACT score at Southern Miss: 22
Average ACT score at Bradley: 25 (low for us, as my 2006 class average was 26.5)

How come nobody wants to go to this "Carnegie 1 Research university"

I'm not the least bit jealous.

I'm gonna let you in on a secret -- I go to graduate school at Northern Illinois. Like Southern Miss, NIU is (sadly) the best team in the state, and was invited to a crappy bowl that nobody cares about out of the MAC (and in fact, almost got paired with USM in Mobile, but ended up with a better opponent in TCU). It was depressing looking at all those empty seats. Yeah, TCU won big and claimed the hallowed Poinsettia title, but from what I gather they're less than thrilled.

In no way, shape or form does a minor bowl compare with a Sweet 16 in basketball. I wouldn't trade one Sweet 16 for a dozen Poinsettia/GMAC/Armed Forces bowls. If you're in the Sweet 16, you're at least technically still playing for it all. What are you playing for by facing the MAC runners-up in the Mobile, Alabama Bowl?

The point is that we've reached heights you've never reached. We have a baseball coach that can't get fired because he's been there so long he's an admin and also recruited Kirby Puckett. But the team does play in a multi-million dollar state-of-the-art downtown stadium, and after we change coaches the program should get back on its feet.

We're a state school, and as such, can't discriminate against people with lower test scores like a private school can. Using entrance requirements to make your argument is laughable. Who cares what's coming in? It's what we're putting out that matters. And we're putting out more and better qualified people than Bradley. When you get a program that even sniffs a Top 5 world ranking, come talk to me. Until then, you can keep your little commuter school and it's 14 graduate programs.

I guarantee more people will see our "minor bowl" than watched Bradley get absolutely BLOWN AWAY by Memphis in the sweet 16.

You win, I will be PMing you

              Congrats!!

I am impresed with how many guesses were right within one or two points.

Even our friend Grand Eagle got the winning score EXACTLY right, but unfortunately he guessed the wrong team winning!

                First of all, no.

Second, by making the Sweet 16 Bradley played a total of 3 games, two of which were wins over Kansas and Pitt, who a lot of people thought were going to the Final Four. Those were "people in Vegas are getting their legs broken"-type upsets. That was way, way, way more impressive/relevant than anything Southern Miss can accomplish by beating MAC runner-up Ohio in the Nobodycares Bowl.

That said, good luck this season. Your team is better than I expected, and I do think you will finish in the top half of C-USA....
