  • MVC attendance

I think everyone knew going into 2013-14 that the loss of Creighton was going to have an impact but....

but kinda bad news.....the MVC attendance took the largest single year hit in history...

the numbers were unfortunately quite terrible compared to last year...
The one good team, Wichita, really couldn't improve their attendance much since they already sell out all their home games, but all the other MVC teams had strikingly bad years...

    Here are the numbers....

    Total home attendance
    2013-14: 833670 (27.2% drop)
    2012-13: 1145675

    Average home attendance
    2013-14 5449 (22.5% drop)
    2012-13: 7029

    Total attendance all games:
    2013-14: 1878648 (26.8% drop)
    2012-13: 2567675

    Average attendance all games:
    2013-14: 5710 (a 23.5% drop from last year)
    2012-13: 7464

I noticed two MVC kids (Walt Lemon & Cleanthony Early) are in the dunk contest...
several of the MVC kids got multiple post-season national honors - Early, Van Vleet, Baker, Cotton, Odum...
Gregg Marshall getting Coach of the Year from several sources...
Even all the hype & National Player of the Year talk surrounding Doug McDermott - a kid who is less than a year out of the MVC...

with all that the MVC should be riding high with press coverage and soaring attendance...but not so, barely a single mention on anything in the MVC outside of Wichita....

... unfortunately someone forgot to send that memo and the rest of the nation sees that the Shockers are about the only thing good happening this year in the MVC.

I sure hope we have an enormous rebound next season and we get multiple MVC teams in the Top 100 battling for post-season bids....
