  • Northwestern wants out of deal with ISU

ISU went to Northwestern & played there - and the rest of the deal was to play in Bloomington then back in Evanston...
Thus it was a 2-for-1 and not a home and home as some people had claimed...and even as was boasted by ISU

regardless - Northwestern wants out of the rest of the deal - they do not want to play ISU

..but apparently the deal was not only a 2:1 but it also granted Northwestern an opt out with absolutely zero penalty so they walk out with no buyout required of them.

I don't blame them for wanting out. ISU would kick their ever loving a-- next year. Don't understand why ISU would give them the opportunity to opt out.

Page Not Found (404): It looks like you're lost... The page you are looking for no longer exists.

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State Director of Athletics Gary Friedman announced the completion of a football and basketball contract with Northwestern, which includes a football game in 2016 and two men's basketball games, including a home contest against the Wildcats on Doug Collins Court in Redbird Arena.

but cpacmel - that's essentially the same release I linked to and it is either in error or untrue..

"ISU AD Larry Lyons confirms Northwestern has requested out of final 2 games of 3-game basketball deal."

I think that's about as clear and unquestioned as it gets - this was never a home and home - it was a 2 for 1..which makes more sense as a Big Ten school making a home and home with an MVC school was a bit hard to take on face value anyway.
.....so the current AD is apparently either more accurate about it or more honest about it.

I think this is the fallacy of the argument the NCAA uses when picking teams for the tournament. They say schools need to play better schools but the so called better schools wont schedule mid majors(i dont like that name) because they are afraid of getting beat. What they should do is make it mandatory for the "bigger" schools to schedule the "mid-majors" or they get fined.

This is from the game notes from this season's game at Northwestern (under the current AD too)

            STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE
Illinois State head coach Dan Muller is committed to improving the Redbirds' strength of schedule, and that is evident by ISU's 2013-14 non-conference slate. The Redbirds opened up at No. 14 VCU (Nov. 8 ), and ISU will host VCU in 2014-15 for the home-and-home series return. The Redbirds are also beginning a home-and-home series with Northwestern and DePaul this season, while ISU is in the second year of home-and-home contracts with Drexel and Dayton. After starting the home-and-home series at Northwestern this year, the Wildcats will return the trip in 2014-15, allowing NU head coach Chris Collins to coach on the floor which bears his father's name (Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena).
