Bradley loses another recruiting battle- Nick Norton, who Geno really liked and recruited intensely, today committed to University of Alabama Birmingham.

What in the world is our coaching staff doing wrong to not get these kids? Yea, wins make a difference but there's gotta be something else going on..

Losing a Central Illinois kid we really covet to UAB? We gotta do something to change the momentum of this program right now...

Norton's Dad is the Head Women's Basketball Coach at UAB.

OK, that actually makes more sense then. I wonder if UAB even has to use a scholarship on him.

if they want him when other schools are willing to spend a scholarship then I suspect they'd have to come up with one as well

Most schools give faculty and staff's children a full or partial scholarship. I know both U of I and BU do. I think there was discussion of this with McDermott, but his dad hadn't been there long enough. NCAA has rules to prevent the hiring of a parent to get around the scholarship maxes and such, but if his dad has been there a while UAB could effectively have an extra scholly I believe.

FWIW, McDermott is paying his own way this year anyway, so Gibbs could have a scholarship for his 5th year.

If we are going to rip on BU for losing a kid to a college where his dad works.....

For one thing Geno didn't father him. If you think we have trouble getting kids from Il. you need to check out the 1st and 2nd all state teams in Il and see how many of them are going to the U of I. That is a real big problem in the U of I camp.

Why would the staff waste time and money going after him if they didn't have a shot at him?

The kid just got the UAB offer this week so why wouldn't they go after him. Probably not much time or money spent. He lives just down the road.

BU needs to get a good recruiter on the coaching staff in a bad way.

and if we are going to target a ton of juco guys, then like Wichita has by stocking their assistant coaching staff with guys who have powerful juco coaching roots & contacts - we need to get the right guys...

We have said for years how hard it is to recruit to Bradley. I doubt that it has changed too much. I am willing to give Coleman some more time. He has only been here a short time. Yes, I would have liked to have seen better results, but I would think we have greater concerns than Coleman. If he hasn't produced in a couple of more years, or there is major staff shakeup, his position will probably be reviewed at that time.

I'm not in the know but I would think other positions on the staff would be more likely to be scrutinized.
