The 2014 Big Ten Player of the Year is Nick Stauskas of Michigan.
It's the second year in a row the award went to Michigan player (Trey Burke last year), and both Burke and Stauskas were high schoolers that were not among the top recruits in their class. Stauskas was rated between 70-100 nationally by the recruiting services in 2012, and Burke was rated even lower, between 100-150 in 2011.
This shows John Beilein knows what he is doing with recruiting, coaching, and developing talent. Michigan ran away with the Big Ten title, finishing 3 full games ahead of 2nd place Michigan State and Wisconsin, despite not getting recruits rated as highly as most other Big Ten schools, and without perhaps his best player, Mitch McGary, who played in only 8 games and missed the entire Big Ten season with injury.
