  • Gregg Marshall on recruiting

    from GM

"To be quite frank, we don't get the pick of the litter," Marshall said. "That
goes to Duke or UNC or those type programs. We get the next level guys that
want to go somewhere now where they can go to a Final Four and win every
game in a regular season and win the NIT and be on national television and
be the focus, if not the epicenter, of college basketball. Which is what we've
been the last couple of weeks."

That is, players like Fred VanVleet, who picked Wichita State over Northern
Illinois and Kent State and quickly emerged as a national star."

Marshall's simple "run hard" mantra works with a roster full of overlooked
    prospects who buy in."

    good coach

Don't care what you think of Marshall personally but good coach.....for all you who want four-five stars at bu...that isn't going to happen for any team in the valley...the gold is hidden and it takes a coach(or assistants) at our level to see it and bring it out.

Again, in my opinion our talent isn't much different than isu, siu, or mo state....read my other posts if you don't see my point.

Reminds me of the way Dick V used to recruit. Worked out pretty good for him also. Only problem was he was too successful for Bradley. Everybody fires a coach after a32-3 season.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

You might expect Gregg Marshall to be preparing for his first round game in the NCAA Tournament, instead of recruiting. Especially since he has 2 outstanding redshirt freshmen waiting to become eligible next season, along with probably the top 5 recruits among all MVC recruits for 2014-

Also, considering he will be getting multi-million dollar offers to coach BCS programs in a couple weeks, you could excuse him for backing off just a little right now.

But no. He is out recruiting for future classes at Wichita State-

That is the kind of intensity and dedication it takes to be a successful head coach at a mid-major school in the MVC.

Don't know if it was Marshall but someone from the WSU staff was at Mooseheart 2 weeks ago according to one of their kids.

We're recruiting Makur Puou. It looks like he's planning on doing a prep school year or going juco. Mooseheart was playing on your floor a few days ago. Interesting that they're wearing "Play Angry" warmup shirts:

I heard from someone connected to the Mooseheart program that Marshall was recruiting Puou. I also heard that he may be recruiting him for his next job.

A year at prep school might create more offers from BCS schools.

Didn't the PJS say they had issues with their freshman high school year being outside the United States and none would qualify for next year?

Yes. Supposedly, like a lot of African kids, the Sudanese kids do not have transcripts for their first couple years of high school in Sudan. They will not be qualified for a 4-year NCAA school.

Mangisto Deng and Makur Puou, the 2 best Sudanese players from the Class 1A Mooseheart team that won the state championship last March, will enroll at Vincennes College. No doubt they will be hot D1 recruits in a couple years.

Any chance they might be talented enough to go from JC to the NBA draft?

I don't think they are anywhere close to that category. So far they have only played against Class 1A competition. Let'ssee how they do against good juco competition.

just curious - can you name anyone who went straight from junior college to the NBA?

I immediately thought of Chris "birdman" Andersen of the Miami heat but he played in China after blinn college before getting to the nba.
