MVC Coach of the Year Award goes to --

Greg Marshall - he got 39 of 40 1st place votes - so I am guessing he was the only voter out of 40 that did not vote for himself..
If so, it is a classy move...as obviously nobody else even came close this season to deserving a #1 vote in this award.

Hinson was 2nd, then Lusk (who got the only other 1st place vote), Muller, & Lansing and a total of 7 other votes named someone else in the top 3.

Note that Barry Hinson was the runaway choice for 2nd place in the Coach of the Year voting.



But after the SIU tied for 4th place in the regular season, and after their relatively easy upset of UNI last night, Barry is getting national attention for how quickly he seems to have turned SIU around. How did he do it? He is a very good coach who took a terrible team that then lost much of it's roster to transfer, he invited walkons, Division II juco kids, and Class 1A and 2A high school kids, and combined them with a couple leftovers from the previous coach, and he has blended them into a solid team that plays hard every minute. The one thing I notice most about Barry's teams is how his players keep improving each season, and how his team keeps getting better throughout the season. They have now won 8 of their last 11 games. By comparison, Bradley lost 7 of their last 10, and it's hard to find any player that seems to improve much.

they play hard for him plus he coaches good defense

... he inherited Desmar Jackson - a kid who will even get looks from some NBA teams...
Barry's real challenge will be how he does next year...
