Ugly brawl of the night

An ugly brawl broke out at the end of a late game last night in Orem, Utah at Utah Valley University. New Mexico State and Utah Valley University were tied at the top of the WAC at 10-3, so the game was important for the top seed in the upcoming WAC tournament.
Utah Valley pulled away in overtime to win 66-61, and as the overtime ended, their students rushed the court. But that coincided with a scuffle that started when one of the New Mexico State players (K.C. Ross Miller) decided to act like a sore loser, and after the final buzzer, he threw the ball as hard as he could at one of the UVU Mormon players, bouncing it off his shin. Then a couple of the NMSU players started fighting with the mass of students on the court. It looks to me like the fight was broken up by someone from UVU who grabbed the NMSU players who were throwing punches at students, and pulled them out of the crowd and directed them to their locker room. I suspect there will be suspensions handed out to a couple of the players from NMSU.

Here is the video of a brawl between two high school teams in northwest Indiana that happened Saturday night.

Early in the game with Griffith (IN) leading 4-0, a Griffith player has a wide open breakaway dunk, but if fouled hard from behind (by a Hammond, IN player)
in a very unsportsmanlike way, crashing head first into the padded wall.

A major brawl ensues, first with players, then additional players and coaching personnel from both benches, then ultimately even some fans and parents from the stands join the action.

Both police and IHSAA are reviewing the videos to determine if arrests should be made and to determine penalties - even including the possibility of suspending both teams from further play this season.

Another high school basketball game that was terminated right in the middle by a "melee"...

BUT - this game had national significance and one of the players, Malik Newman, is a 5-Star, TOP-5 player nationally being recruited by several top schools...

Last night's Seton Hall-Villanova game had an incident where one of the Seton Hall players punched a Villanova player in the face.
He was ejected but should also get a suspension.

the game was pretty entertaining...
even the fight showed how hard those kids play...
but Villanova can put some points on the board and entertain you...
their starters were 21-37 and all get multiple assists/rebounds/stl/blk


then the other games were even better -
The exciting last few seconds of Kansas vs. West Virginia and the game winning play by WVU's Juwan Staten - followed by the amazing wide open layup Kansas' Perry Ellis that he shanked...
Tuff Luck Jayhawks...


And Butler's amazing last minute comeback and game winning shot at Creighton - keeping the Bluejays in last place in the Big East.

Then any time Virginia is on I watch - they are such a good team

another brawl in a women's game between Texas Southern & Southern Univ has forced the Texas Southern people to withdraw their team form their conference Tourney even though they were one of the better teams..
they would have so many suspensions they are not going to be able to field a team.
Really tough for the kids who did NOT partake in the Brawl

both teams are suspended - neither will move on to the Sectional..
one girl was clobbered and taken to the hospital...
a strict instruction was given to all North Lawndale students leaving the game not to talk to anyone about the brawl - specifically not to talk to media...
Hmmm..what are they afraid of - bad publicity??

The report also says "police were called" and arrived several minutes after the fight started...
if you watch the video - it appears there were absolutely no police or security there - hmmm..maybe rethink that one given how many of these Public League games turn into brawls.
Maybe suspend every kid involved in the brawl for life - not just a game or two, that'll get someone's attention!!

UC Davis soccer was playing an exhibition game vs. a Sacramento club team (FC-Republic) when a 66th minute red card called for a FC-Republic ejection-
and so after a little bit of "chippiness & shoving" the FC-Republic coach pulled his team, walked off the field and forfeited a game they were winning 1-0!
