I want to make it clear I don't hate Marshall or Wichita. I have been maybe their biggest cheerleader on this site. The hate for Marshall is pretty prevalent though when I've talked to other fans at Arch Madness. The original hate was from Wichita fans who wanted him gone after a couple of years, sound familiar. As they have gotten better the hate throughout the league has grown. Most just don't like how he'll keep pressing in the 2nd half when they are up by over 20 or how he leaves his starters in late in blow out games. The hate for Creighton was their fans who I and many others will definitely not miss. But I would have loved to have seen that matchup in St. Louis. As far as tonight's game goes we need to shoot close to 50%, make our FT's, don't put them at the line and have less than 10 turnovers. That's not asking for too much is it? Need to get off to a good start to keep the crowd in it and we just can't let the Shockers go on any extended runs.

Even then they kept shooting threes.
He is not likely to pull his starters early or let up tonight, either. It will take a supreme effort to stay with them.

IMO, the dislike of Marshall by non-WSU fans is because he doesn't use coach-speak. That kind of candor usually comes off as edgy and arrogant. He is also very animated during games and works the officials. It rubs opposing fans the wrong way, but he does what he can to give his team every advantage. Marshall is a little arrogant, like a lot of successful coaches are. Contrast him with Mark "at this level" Turgeon. I'll take Marshall every time. That's not to say I don't have the utmost respect for other personalities, such as Jacobsen, Hinson, Lansing, et al.
As for not letting up, Marshall (and to an extent our guards) almost always put the brakes before most coaches. If we have a 20-pt lead with less than 4 minutes to go, the team on their own will generally start to milk the shot clock to shorten the game. Against Drake, the bench came in with about 2 minutes to play. Those guys continued to play hard and Evan Wessel, who had made just one 3FG all year, and who has been trying to get un-tracked, took and drained a couple of open threes. That game was very much an anomaly. There's been a bunch of games that could have been 20+ point margins had the Shocks not taken their foot off the accelerator early.

The thing I like most about Marshall is the character of kids he brings in. If the staff gets any indications during recruitment that a kid isn't coachable, won't work hard or might be prone to getting in trouble, they stop recruiting him.

It ain't bragging if you can back it up. And if you don't want to get your butts whipped try and do something to prevent it. The main reason I love watching Wichita is because of how hard they play for 40 minutes. There's just no let up. They put pressure on you all the time. They are among the best in the country at turning defense to offense. All of their core 4 can go inside or outside. So far doesn't seem like they are feeling the pressure of being undefeated but with their last true road game it'll be interesting to see how they respond.

Where Are All The Rivalries???
IMWO (In my weird opinions)
I think BU and BU fans need to 'hate' a lot more schools and opposing team coaches to generate more rivalries and fan interest in the MVC. OK, hate is too strong... a big dislike perhaps.
With CU gone, other than ISU-R, does BU have any real rivalries in the MVC that get teams, coaches, fans stoked?
With CU gone, I also don't even know if any of the MVC teams have a BU-ISUR type rivalry, which has also gotten way to civil in my mind...
The League always had a whipping boy in CU and Altman, mr smug.
Now they're gone.
If Marshall doesn't have a fault, we need to make one up. Get people more juiced to see a bitter rivalry, real or imagined, than a gargoyle.
The MVC is booooooooriiiiiiing.....BUilding for the Future
