Sorry for being late to the party
This is my first post, but I wanted to weigh in on this topic. My only affiliation with Bradley is that I pay my daughter's tuition to go there. We live two states away. I heard about BU surveying students about potential mascots about a year ago, with options like a lion or an eagle -- or a gargoyle. I absolutely loved the idea of a gargoyle, because it would be something very unique that no other college would have.
So, when Kaboom was unveiled a couple weeks ago, what was my reaction?
I think he's AWESOME!!!! I've shown him to all my friends and colleagues around here and every one of them think it's very clever. This weekend my daughter will be bringing me a Kaboom T-shirt which I can't wait to proudly wear at the gym.
I've read all the negative critiques here, and I understand you guys have more emotion invested in BU sports than I do. My advice would be to embrace the campiness of Kaboom -- no other school has anything like it (well, maybe the Billikens do). It could be brilliant for branding purposes and raise the awareness of the school -- my only criticism is that it should have been timed for earlier in the season, if not the start.
