all 3 games important to the tournament seeding for each team.

yup - if we beat SIU in the battle for 6th place - then we will have effectively a 2-game lead on them since we win the tiebreaker (head to head)

if they win, then they win the tiebreaker (SOS) & have effectively a 2-game lead on us.

The battle to stay out of Thursday is what's being used to hype the game in the paper...
but SIU starts and plays a bunch of freshmen & first-year guys (Smithpeters - a walkon, Olaniyan - who averages 2.8ppg, O'Brien - a freshman we recruited but passed on..) - we should be able to get the win down in C-Dale....

even tho the talk of Coach of the Year is pretty well cut & dried when you have an undefeated team in the league -- WSU was expected to run away with the MVC - so I think at least some talk should go to...

both Porter Moser & Barry Hinson...

both their teams were expected to be really bad, fighting for last place and not expected to win much this year...

Hinson is only one win away from battling for 3rd place, and Loyola has won as many games as Evansville & Drake - and could conceivably get out of playing Thursday with a decent run to finish out the season.

Maybe Hinson, but not Moser, IMO. Loyola is tied for last place at 4-10, and there is no way a last place coach will ever get COY.
Plus in their last 4 games Loyola plays Wichita State at home, Bradley and Missouri State on the road, then finishes with Evansville at home. Which of those games will they win? My guess is they finish 10th.

Illinois State wins again at home 67-63, holding on despite a strong late surge by Missouri State.

Drake lead UNI by 20 points with around 10 minutes left in the game. But UNI is now on a 13 point run late in the game to close the lead to 62-57 with 2:24 left in Des Moines.

Uni cut the lead to 1 point in the final minute, but ran out of time and had to foul Drake.

So here is how the standings look after Tuesday's games-



Bradley is now in danger of dropping to 8th seed or lower, which would not be desirable. It would increase the likelihood that even if Geno can win the first MVC tournament game of his career, that the Braves would then have to play Wichita State next, instead of a more favorable draw against Indiana State.

For BU to avoid the play in game would really take a minor miracle. If we beat Loyola and Drake and lose to Wichita one of the 3 teams that are tied for 4th would have to go 0-3 for us to finish ahead of them. UNI has the toughest schedule with games at home against ISU Red and SIU and they finish at ISU Blue. SIU goes on the road to Evansville and UNI and finish at home against ISU Red. MSU is home against Loyola and ISU Blue and finish at Wichita.
