  • Canisius player plays all 55 minutes in 3-OT game

Canisius beat MAAC league rival Siena in 3 Overtimes today 92-88.
Sophomore Brett Bisping, from Morton, IL, scored 16 points and had 9 rebounds for Siena in the loss.
But the biggest story of the game was Canisius senior guard Billy Baron, who played all 55 minutes and scored 40 points
Box score for the Canisius Golden Griffins vs. Siena Saints NCAAM game from February 16, 2014 on ESPN. Includes all points, rebounds and steals stats.

However, the 55 minutes played is well short of the record for the most minutes ever played in an NCAA game.
Does anyone know what the record is and who holds it?

The answer is here in the NCAA record book-

On page 3 under Individual Records- Games/Minutes Played (in lower right)

I remember that game. It was played at the Fieldhouse and there was a significant snowfall that day. Parking was difficult, but a friend and I were determined to make it to the game. Bradley lost in the 7th overtime.

Yes, that was on Dec. 21, 1981, early in the 1981-82 season that would see Bradley go on and win the 1982 NIT. Cincinnati won the game 75-73 in 7-overtimes, which is still an NCAA record.
It was also the final season for the Fieldhouse as the primary home court for the Braves, as they moved into Carver Arena the next fall. It may also be the only home game for Bradley that started one day, and ended the next, as the game started at 8:05 PM and did not end until after midnight.
It was before the shot clock, so teams were able to hold the ball as long as they wanted to try for the last shot.
The game ended regulation time in a 61-61 tie.
The overtime scoring went like this:
      .............Regulation...OT1...OT2...OT3...OT4... OT5...OT6...OT7...FINAL
      Cincinnati.....61..........2.......2.......0...... 2.......4.......2.......2......75
      Bradley........61..........2.......2.......0...... 2.......4.......2.......0......73

Bradley's Donald Reese and Cincinnati's Bobby Austin both played 73 out of a possible 75 minutes. Eight players totaled more than 62 minutes, including freshman Voise Winters who made an impact in that game scoring 12 points and grabbing 15 rebounds in 70 minutes of play, and he did not start or play the first 5 minutes! He impressed Coach Versace so much, he became a starter the next game, and remained a starter the rest of his Bradley career.
Cincinnati was coached by Ed Badger, who would have a long career as an NBA coach, including for the Bulls. Cincinnati also had a talented freshman named "Big" Mike Williams, who would later transfer to Bradley and play on the 1986 Bradley MVC Championship and NCAA team with Jimmy and Hersey.

That is an impossible piece of trivia for me. But I'll bet I can guess one of the members.

Was it the Peoria Municipal Band?

No to the Muny Band, and no to Morton High School -- though the latter is on the right track. And no, DC, I wasn't in the band. I was covering the band's playing as a cub reporter/photographer for a local publication. And I still remember the caption headline I gave my photo was: "And the band played on...and on...and on....and on..."

My wife and I remember that game. I thought we would never get home. We dreaded getting up early for work the next morning. I always thought both teams played not to lose instead of playing to win.

OK, I'll keep my STL beer money. Hopefully I'll need it beyond Thursday night.

It was the ********************* High School band. I know, unfair for the answer to be a school with a name that ***********************. I'll always remember that game and it was great to be in the fieldhouse that night!

                      speaking of 7 overtime games...
I just ran across this flashback..
A reserve forward had the last laugh in the longest NCAA Division I basketball game ever played.
