MVC Commissioner Doug Elgin has some comments about the possibility of an incident like what happened with Oklahoma State's Marcus Smart going after a Texas Tech fan last week. Sounds like he is not a fan of what he calls the "Gucci Seats". Could this eventually lead to another reconfiguration of those courtside seats?

It is a 2 way street. If I am sitting down by the court ( and i dont ) then I have a right to cheer on my team in a positive way. If I want to stand up on a good basket, dunk or whatever then i will. I dont care what they say. Now if I am standing up and being derogatory toward a player or ref that is different. But just to say I cant stand up at all...no no no .. that wont fly Mr Elgin or Mr. Referee -
the ref is wrong to tell fans sitting by courtside that they must stay seated - I do not believe anyone, not the arena, the Valley, nor the NCAA have a such a rule.
btw - at a recent Kentucky game the fans behind the visitors' bench were complaining about the players standing occasionally to cheer...
they even complained vocally right to the refs and demanded they make the players sit down.
The lead ref, Ted Valentine, one of the finest & most experienced NCAA referees there did not act upon the fans complaints because (as cited in this link) the rules
DO ALLOW "...bench personnel, with the exception of the head coach, are required to be seated on the bench while the ball is live except to react spontaneously to an outstanding play ...."
So they are allowed and expected to stand and cheer....

Memphis head coach Josh Pastner kicked one of HIS OWN PLAYERS off his bench in the middle of a game for foul language!!

Agree 100 % but if one toe crosses that side or end line in a threating manner their butts get removed in a heart beat. To tell the people they need to stay seated is just plain crazy. Haven't worked this game in over 20 years and this stuff was never an issue. What has changed ? Is it society in general or is something else going on? Do officials today get a kick out of ejecting people, that's sad if true. Only ejected 2 people in nearly 2,000 games worked. Hate to see the game coming to who can toss the most fans but maybe it has. I'm a firm believer that if you are locked in on what is going on between the lines you don't hear or realize what's going on or being said to you by people who think it's okay to berate you and embarrass themselves every time a whistle goes against their team.Originally posted by tornado View PostComment

THOSE FANS are the best ones we have - strongly supporting the team & the school with their efforts, money, and cheering - we need more of them not treat them like a disease to get rid of.
BTW - Dave Reynolds appears to have talked with Doug Elgin - but clearly never got anything nor talked with any of the fans who were right there at courtside and who were eyewitnesses to what transpired. He should have - those fans are easy to find and willing to talk....
I talked with one of the fans that was at courtside when this happened Wednesday, and he was very, very frustrated because what happened was so incredibly benign....
A couple of the courtside fans stood to applaud just as everyone else in the arena was doing, and were immediately reprimanded by the one older ref, Rick Randall, who sternly threatened to toss them if they didn't sit and stay seated at all times - it appeared to the fan, that Randall was already primed and ready for his outburst and was waiting for the tiniest opportunity to pull the trigger - even doing so when absolutely NOTHING bad happened, nothing threatening, and nothing out of the ordinary that happens at every collegiate arena in every game.
It really appeared as though Randall had an agenda and was going to use it - all he needed was an opportunity to find himself on that side of the floor to do so.Comment

Officials all over seem to be seizing control. This fan was ejected but was sitting behind a courtside table - obviously not a place to be if you are going to criticize the refs
Three different fans in separate ejections were tossed by this crew who reportedly were doing a horrible job...
Coaches aren't immune
BUTLER & IU issued written warnings to every courtside ticketholder

Next, the NCAA officials will require fans to be CFE (Courtside Fan Education) certified to sit at courtside.

Bad fans at ASU again. Last night during the double overtime upset by the Sun Devis over #2 ranked Arizona, a fan was ejected for throwing a sign at the Arizona bench.What part of illegal don't you understand?Comment

And there was even more controvery at the end of overtime in the Arizona State upset of Arizona. ASU lead by 1 point (67-66), when Arizona had a shot blocked that would have won it for them. ASU point guard Jahii Carson then grabbed the ball and could have just dribbled out the time and the game would have ended with his team winning, but he took off to the other end, and dunked the ball to make it 69-66. He then hung on the rim, and even did a chin-up.Originally posted by Chico View Post
The ASU fans, thinking the game was over, rushed the court. Even the coaches shook hands and started to leave the court as a massive celebration unfolded on the court. The problem was, there was still 0.7 seconds left, and Arizona would have 1 last possession. It would have been almost impossible to score needing to go the full court with 0.7 seconds, but the officials could (and maybe should) have called a technical foul on Carson for his extended hanging on the rim, and the ASU fans also may have warranted a technical foul for rushing the court when the game was still going (technical fouls have been called a whole lot less).
If technicals had been called it might have given Arizona the chance to win the game.

There was another officiating mistake in the Duke-Maryland game that may have cost Maryland a chance at an upset-
