Peorian AJ Guyton, brother to Daniel Ruffin...
has made it known he is interested in the open position at IUPUI - I think it would be a great fit
The IUPUI men’s basketball program has an opening for a new head coach and, as expected, it has drawn plenty of interest. The program is seeking its next leader to help a struggling program b…

BTW - on the Bruce Pearl hiring -- one of the CBSSports writers checked with NCAA and confirmed that Pearl is still under sanctions by NCAA until August 24, 2014.
Thus at present he cannot be hired. If he is not hired then he cannot work with the team or recruit between now and August 24 - nor can he be paid...creating a concern.
    But - there are options...
He could just wait 'til August then he's free to work, be hired, recruit, & coach - but that's getting a pretty late start.. - any assistants or staff he hires wouldn't be under any sanctions - so that would help if this is the course they follow...
He or his represenattives could appeal to the NCAA and ask that the sanctions be ended or softened - this is likely what he will do.
or he could try to "show cause" which means prove to the NCAA that there's a compelling need for him to be hired at an NCAA insitution despite the sanctions.

Surprising news- Marquette Head Coach Buzz Williams has quit and will take the open head coaching job at Virginia Tech. His reason is he feels the Big East is diluted down with the changes of the past year.
Buzz Williams was gone. Marquette’s head coach was frustrated with the new league and changes in administration. He wanted a change of scenery. The old Big East was all-powerful.

BTW, I am already seeing a couple twitter rumors starting about Gregg Marshall to Marquette.
This one from ESPN College Basketball Writer Jeff Goodman-

Wichita State assistant Chris Jans is hired for open Head Coaching spot at Bowling Green-

Jans was overdue to get a chance at a D1 head coaching job. He had a lot to do with the highly successful recruiting at Wichita State. And they have another great recruiting class coming in next fall.

Numerous sources were reporting that VCU's Shaka Smart to Marquette was a done deal - even the details of his new contract...

and Illinois Prep Bullseye posted this tweet
"Per sources close to Marquette, Shaka Smart is expected to be announced
as new men's hoops coach in 5 min. Press conference will come later."

but they have since deleted it.

but over the past 10-12 hours the story has changed and it's looking more like Smart will not take the Marquette job...
so I guess we will have to wait & see.........

He had only a year left on his contract and they were not going to renew him - but he claims a personal matter and is stepping down.

Houston has a huge enrollment of 41,000...they also have an enormous fan base mostly stemming from football -
they are right in the middle of a huge, growing city in a state that has great basketball and yet they draw only 3782 as a home average!
So I went to their message board and it is way busier than I expected - literally hundreds of threads & thousands of posts just the past few days - all on the coaching situation, Dickey leaving who they should hire, etc.....
I gotta think if they get the right guy they'd fill their arena in no time....but is Kelvin Sampson really the right guy?
Dickey was reportedly making only $250K but rumor is they are prepared to spend $800K to get the "right guy"???
There was actually a little discussion about ex-BU assistant Alvin Brooks III (whose father was at one time the Houston head coach)-
but with such little head coaching experience, he may not be the right guy.
Lots of talk about Stephen F. Austin head coach Brad Underwood - who coached his team to 32-3 and the 3rd round of the NCAA Tourney this past week.

Steve Masiello, currently the head coach at Manhattan and a former assistant under Rick Pitino at Louisville, is reportedly going to become the new coach at South Florida, replacing Stan Heath.
