  • Because of his Chicago roots and his high profile name & who he's related to....
Craig Robinson's name is being thrown out a little as a candidate for the Athletic Director position that is currently open at Loyola

I can't imagine Robinson would've lasted that long at OSU without the family connection. They haven't made an NIT/NCAA Tourney since 05.

I also didn't realize the history they had with Gary Payton, AC Green, Brent Barry, among others.

Craig Robinson's career record has very little that stands out other than the salary they were paying him...

only two winning seasons in 8 years as a head coach, only one of which he also had a winning season in his conference record and a career W-L of 124-133 - with a rather awful Pac-12 record of 39-69 and a whole lot of those career wins against 250+ RPI softies and DII's (Howard, West Alabama, Navy, NH, Montana, Grambling, Coppin St., UMES, and preponderantly large number of HBCU's), and zero NCAA or NIT appearances.

Any arguments that his firing was unfair - are kinda silly in the face of the $4.2 million buyout Oregon State is paying him just to not coach!

Robinson was incredibly highly paid for as little performance as he produced at Oregon State.

              • He has done well at the high school level - he should be successful there.....
but it is obvious his real goal is to become a head coach - his name keeps surfacing for DII jobs - LINK - LINK

Matt Saey was hired as Director of Player Development - he was previously Director of Strength and Conditioning at a small Arlington Heights high school!
The other, Phil Gaul, hired as DBO was previously the student manager.

                    • Sounds a lot more like a salary purge than an upgrade to the staff.

                        • Several past BU coaches doing quite nicely salary-wise

                          Ritchie McKay - gets a bump to $385K!! - http://www.dailyprogress.com/cavalie...7a43b2370.html

                          Molinari got a contract for about $230K - http://journalstar.com/sports/husker...c26d867d0.html

Lennox Forrester got a raise and extension just recently - as did Alvin Brooks and Jim Platt after the tremendous seasons they all had.

BTW - even Jim Les DOUBLES his salary this season - due to a contract that was ..."backloaded" for certain reasons...
that actually moves him right up to the top of the Big West Conference - LINK

Here's how that compares to some of the Bradley salaries - LINK

                          • just spent some time searching the various databases for open coaching positions....

seems we might just be one of the only 4-5 remaining DI basketball program that still has a current opening they are trying to fill - so that's very unusual this late....

Anyway - the only men's basketball positions still listed for assistants are
University of North Dakota, Longwood, Louisiana Tech (and their position only opened up a week ago), SEMO, and a couple DII's like Winona State (DII), and this one for a cheer coach

There is one top notch DBO job also advertising - LINK

                            • Mississippi Valley State finally fills their coaching slot with an NAIA coach. Reports are that they will hire Andre Payne. Payne was the head coach and AD at tiny Wiley College, an HBCU in Marshall, Texas. It was well known that MVSU was strapped for cash and they would look for a bargain priced coach, but few expected they would reach down to the NAIA level. In fact, they do not have enough money in their budget to hire him until next school year, so they will not be making the announcement until after July 1st.
After a weird search, the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils look to an NAIA head coach to lead their squad.

But now one more head coaching job has opened up. Samford has apparently made a very late decision to change head coaches, so reportedly Bennie Selzer will be fired next week, according to ESPN.

                              • Interesting ESPN piece - the Top 50 coaches in college basketball

#23 is Greg McDermott - seriously -- same guy that four years ago was essentially canned by Iowa State for horrible W-L and a revolving door of player departures & arrests.
He lucked into something that not even the best coach in the universe could hardly be credited for - he happened to be father of the National Player of the year...
and remarkably he didn't even recruit Doug when Greg was at Iowa State!!!
Before I'd put McDermott into any Top 25 or Top 50 - how about he win a Conference Tourney Championship or more than a 1st round post-season game or CBI game or finish above .500 without the National POY.

BTW -- Greg McDermott NEVER won a single NCAA game at Wayne State, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, or Iowa State - not one! (16 seasons)
He also never won the regular season title in either the MVC or Iowa State (9 seasons) and had a fairly weak MVC Tourney record.
sorry - don't mean to sound so negatve but he's a good coach - simply not 23rd best nationally
