Jarmar Gulley is doing what it takes to get his name in the discussion for MVC Player of the Year.
He is a 5th year senior who came from a Division II junior college and was not recruited much at all - there's no mention anywhere of any other offers he ever got other than Missouri State,
so you gotta give Paul Lusk some credit for spotting his talent and landing him in the spring signing period only two weeks after he was hired at Missouri State!
He is the 1/13/14 MVC Player of the Week after putting up 26 points vs. us, and he's been averaging 20 ppg & 8 rebounds over the past 5 games since playing Bradley.
A knee injury nearly ended his career last year but he's made a nice comeback.

Just for the record, Gulley was signed when Martin was still the coach. In fact Martin's last class would have been Josh Richardson, Gulley, Wes Washpun, Dorrian Williams, and Christian Kirk.

            this simply isn't correct...
Several solid sources including the official Missouri State website to the local news coverage in SW Missouri all say he was recruited, landed, and signed BY Paul Lusk ..
            read for yourself...

"Missouri State men's basketball head coach Paul Lusk announced his first signee of the spring recruiting period
Friday (April 15) when recruit Jarmar Gulley (6-4, 225, G/F, Beaumont, Texas) made his commitment official."

"Not only has new coach Paul Lusk held on to Cuonzo Martin's three incoming recruits,
he went and got his first signee on Friday..."

Page Not Found (404): It looks like you're lost... The page you are looking for no longer exists.

The date that Gulley signed (4/15/11) is clearly after Paul Lusk was hired (4/1/11) and other recruiting articles also note that MSU only started recruiting him late that spring when Lusk took over.

which brings up one other issue - that even though the availability of really good, meaningful recruits ..is a little scarcer in the spring - there are some available - Gulley was passed on because he was undersized (6-4) for playing forward..and perhaps because he didn't play at the higher level of juco ball.
But it is encouraging to know that kids still left over in the spring are still available who can make a difference.
Lusk could have used the excuse that he didn't have a lot of open scholarships, that nothing is available in the late signing period, or that it takes 3 or 4 years to get all your own players in there - but instead he went out and got the job done and now he's in the upper half of the VALLEY.

Even recruiting sites claim Jarmar Gulley signed his NLI to Missouri State on April 14, 2011.
Paul Lusk was hired on April 1, 2011.

It is possible that Cuonzo Martin may have recruited Gulley, but Martin left Missouri State March 27, 2011, 18 days before Gulley committed to Missouri State.

possibly - I am only going on what's been written -
a premium recruiting article from March 15, 2011 lists a few schools interested - none had offered and none of them was Missouri State..
Gulley then blew up a bit later in March as he played in the NJCAA playoffs....
a few sites do credit Lusk with landing and signing Jarmar - not one site I have been able to find names Gulley even on the same page as Cuonzo Martin.

I am 100% sure that Zo got the verbal commitment from Gulley. I will give Lusk credit for getting him to commit after Zo left, as you stated Gulley was a late bloomer and did attract attention. Anthony Downing was a late signee by Lusk and very good player in the Valley. Lusk and his ever changing staff has done a nice job getting good players.
