Less than 7 minutes into the game and Ethan Wragge has 21 points already! He is 7 for 7 from three point range, currently the team is 11 for 13 from 3 point land.
Love to see BU put up these kind of numbers someday.
Creighton (currently unranked) is now humbling #4 ranked and Big East favorite Villanova 90-50 with over 6 minutes left in the game! And the game is on Villanova's home floor.
Creighton is 21-33 from three!
Maybe three point shooting is pretty important after all?
So Villanova had hopped over Wichita in the Top 25 today. Wonder which power conference team will hop over the Shockers next week? Believe me, I realize fifth in the nation is incredible -- can't wait till BU again gets a vote or two for Top 25 -- but this glass ceiling for Wichita is crazy. Final Four a year ago, 19-0 this year, and still can't crack the Top 4.
Again I say....name me one other team -- ever -- that made Final Four, the next year was undefeated at this time of the season, and wasn't ranked in the top 4. Why Wichita?

in his first four years at Creighton - Wragge averaged only 6 or 7 ppg...but they were patient and are now cashing in on his 3-point shooting..
But one other fact is that they have recruited decent shooters across the board..
Brooks shoots 41% from the arc
Chatman shoots 45% from the arc
Manighat shoots 44% from the arc
McDermott shoots 43% from the arc
Wragge shoots 49% from the arc
as a team they shoot 42.4% - that's better than any MVC team...

I think they are ranked appropriately to be honest. They don't have many great wins over ranked teams. They are in a very weak conference.
Playing in the MVC it's a wonder they are ranked as high as they are. Wish them all the luck though.
If Wichita State keeps winning, which is possible (though they have a tough game Wednesday at Illinois State), and eventually the 4 teams ahead of them (Arizona, Syracuse, Michigan State, and Villanova) will lose some games (Michigan State and Villanova already have), it will be interesting to see what those voting in the polls will do. There may be some voters, especially the midmajor coaches in the USA Today Coaches poll that will put WSU up, maybe even to #1 on their ballot if they are the only remaining unbeaten. But there will be enough other coaches from the majors that will never do that. Most AP poll voters, who are media members, will also be reluctant to allow WSU to go to #1 regardless of how many losses the teams ahead have. Just to see what happens, I am hoping Wichita State does not lose. If they do, watch out, there will be some voters who will knock them way down.

What do they have to do? On their Final Four run they toppled seeds #1 Gonzaga and #2 Ohio State and only lost a close battle with eventual national champion Louisville in the national semifinal. To me, that should count when so much of the same team is intact the following year. You can only play who will play you, and the Shockers have whipped all comers. I don't see the power conference elite banging on the door to play in Wichita.
It all really doesn't matter, but no one answered my original question. Name one other team that reached the Final Four, started the next season undefeated this far into the year, and wasn't ranked in the Top Four. It just irritates me. Like DC, I hope they keep winning just to see how the votes go. And yes, should they stub their toe at ISU (red or blue) watch them fall disproportionally to other teams. Wonder how far Nova will fall after their whipping by Creighton?
Hopefully our schedule improves next year. I have no problem with what we put together this year considering. Tennessee was supposed to be better, although they have looked better lately. Alabama was expected to be a little better than they've been. Saint Louis has been strong. Nobody would play us in Dallas for the Tip Off thing.
Word is we're in negotiations with UConn and Purdue for home and home. I've also heard a west coast team that carries a lot of weight (at least by name). Which leads me to believe it's UCLA or Arizona. Haven't heard a lot of specifics about that one so I'm not sure. The other two I'm confident we're talking to but no guarantees they get worked out. Alabama and Saint Louis are also coming to Wichita next season.
None of that helps perception this year, but I feel good about having another high level team next year even though we lose Early and a couple of bigs. We'll return Cotton and Carter as seniors and VanVleet and Baker as juniors. So there's 4 of 5 starters for next season with either JUCO big Bush Wamukota or redshirt FR Shaq Morris being the 5th. And we're extremely excited about our RS guard Rian Holland and the incoming group of FR. Not expecting to be as good as this year, but I think we'll be pretty solid and hopefully have a schedule that helps. Plus the MVC should be better next year than this.
