This case is now back in the headlines...
it appears the head coach of the TOP RANKED Homewood-Flossmoor girls basketball team has been recruiting kids from other schools...
the IHSA was willing to suspend only the head coach and the girls who had transferred and who were involved in the illegal recruiting..
and let the rest of the team play in the STATE TOURNAMENT..
However - the school and the coach objected and proceeded with an appeal claiming they were innocent.......
so IHSA rescinded their offer and issued an even HARSHER penalty..
Now the entire team and the coaches are all suspended and banned from the State Tourney and their first round tourney game vs. TF North is now forfeited
and H-F's season is over...
..as expected the parents are whining "not fair - the kids didn't do anything wrong..."
but in this case, most of them clearly did! They transferred multiple times, even listing the coach's home address as their own residence - the Trib article lists multiple violations that clearly are on the kids as they had to know they were breaking the rules just to stack this team and win more...

Having already banned the Homewood-Flossmoor girls basketball team from the State Tournament...
now IHSA confirms it is looking into similar violations by the boys basketball team - and they may be banished as well..........and other sports
The main concern is that the "off season conditioning" program at H-F that has been in place for 9 years - has been ruled a violation of IHSA bylaws and in effect is an illegal off-season function that was deemed to give H-F athletes an unfair advantage. Athletes from virtually every sport have utilized this program at H-F but it appears that all those athletes have violated
IHSA's "Athletic Season Limitation By-laws (2.090) and Open Gym Limitation By-laws (3.161)."
The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) announced today that the Homewood-Flossmoor High School Girls’ Basketball team and head coach Anthony Smith are suspended from participating in the IHSA State Series over a series of IHSA by-law violations. The girls’ basketball postseason pairings will not be changed and TF North will receive a forfeit victory in tonight’s Regional Semifinal game. The violations came to light after Homewood-Flossmoor recently asked the IHSA...
In a completely unrelated situation, IHSA also banned several other Chicago Public League boys teams for exceeding the maximum number of games that can be played under IHSA rules.
Chicago Bogan's Luwane Pipkins is therefore done with no chance of playing or advancing in the IHSA State Tourney
