Thought the 1st half was a lot of the same game we've seen most of the year, careless turnovers, wide open shots against our defense, getting outhustled to every loose ball. Thought the 2nd half we finally started to show a little something. It is amazing how much better the offense flows when you have more than one threat. Alwan really seemed to make the offense better and Barnes looked as sure of himself on his shots then he's looked all year. It was also nice to see us come through late in the game when it counted. Need to do it 2 games in a row which would be impressive since it's against our nemesis UNI.

Guys - I am watching the replay of the game on ESPN3.
I can't remember a game that was that hard to watch.
So so so sloppy on both sides.
I know we won, but man, I am discouraged from the outlook we had on the season after our trip overseas. We are not very good at all (not that anyone thought differently).
I just was not excited or pumped watching this game, and that's a first in watching my Braves.
Hope that good things are ahead next season. Our offensive flow is horrible - is that all we have? Seems we haven't progressed much in that regard since Year 1.
Walt is a great player, but I think if we get a true PG, our offense will be better. I loved seeing the kick out on a few occasions for an open 3...that has been lacking.

LittleBrave - I think the reffing had a bit to do with that - and SIU has an odd way of playing zone one possession then man the next and switching so if there's anything Barry's group did well last night and against UNI earlier was to confuse them with the varying defenses...

        nice column on Mason Alwan

          Dave Reynolds column-

Ironically, the 66-60 score is exactly the same score we beat SIU last year in Carbondale, which is the only MVC road win Geno has. We also beat the 69-66 last year at Carver Arena.

Nice to see Mason Alwan get some playing time - Geno musta read our comments..

interesting game -- Gerry Pollard talking to the fans - he even talked to me when I told him he missed an offensive foul...
then they threw one fan out merely because he stood and stomped his foot - pretty touchy bunch of refs...

20 pts off the bench - due largely to the use of a walk on!!
Hate to say it cuz I've said it 50 times before - the immense value of even ONE decent 3-point shooter on the floor was on full display - this is what we could look like if we had a reliable 3-pt shooter at any time the past 3 years.
Sometimes the Refs think the game is all about them instead of just keeping the play within the rules of the game

kinda got a kick out of reading the Saluki message board and their comments on the game - if it looks familiar I can show you where we've seen these kinds of comments before...

They continually trash the refs, their own team and even our fan who got tossed...
but they even post death threats against the refs, all the while admitting they didn't watch the game or were drunk while posting -

That was me. I clearly stated it was a joke. Something you conveniently left out.

I did not see your later post stating it was a joke, either, and even the other SIU fans on your board took it as a serious post.
You should have put that into the original post. Why would you even joke about that?

But there are other wildly inappropriate posts directed at the officials such as the "f*ck Pollard" and "Because Pollard is a mental midget" posts.

I was there, and I agree. Our offensive schemes look very ramshackle and the guys look confused. It's not pretty or confidence inspiring. In the post game however, Geno said he was "very happy" with the offense and that it was the defense he was unhappy with.
                      Compete. Defend. Rebound. Win.

Wins are always nice, but we know this one isn't a game changer. A win against UNI would say little something... 1 road win in the Valley so far under Geno...that stat alone has been haunting me in my sleep!!!

I don't care what anyone says, Alwan needs to start. I know he's a liability on defense but if he can get remotely open, he's dangerous from the perimeter. Without him, i'm not sure Bradley wins last night. He's a liability on the D but really who isn't right now?

That's why I mentioned he's a liability on the D but really who isn't right now on the team. So pretty much the whole team is a liability, so doesn't hurt to play Alwan.
