  • Reynolds column Re: Ind. State game

Apparently, I must have been watching the wrong game yesterday after reading DRs column. I thought I was watching BU vs Ind. State. He and I saw two completely different games! Its too bad he doesn't/can't write what really happened and give us a true picture.
The game was ugly, we were terrible again w/ missed layups, bad passes, no offense, slow bringing the ball down the floor, and terrible 3 pt. shooting. The only reason the game was close at all was that Ind. State was equally bad with turnovers, missed shots, and terrible free throw shooting.
Cummon Dave, take off the rose colored glasses!!

well as much as Dave may have rose colored glasses??¦there isn't anything he could write that would satisfy some here either??¦??¦.BU played a decent game and if they played this way all year would have another 3-4 wins for sure??¦we took a top Valley team to the wire and could/should have won??¦..Nobody here picked us to win??¦??¦we played pretty good defense for the most part all game

Bashing the sportswriters gets old??¦.let's move on to something else

First dave does a good job but he does not want to bite the hand that feeds him. But Lefty you said we took a top Valley team to the wire..we are supposed to be a top Valley team. And we used to be in years past

We thought we would be better this year for sure but so far haven't been at all and have gone backward??¦.Everyone agrees that WSU and then ISUblue were the top two in the conference??¦by far really. We have played horrendous for much of the season so going into Terre Haute there wasn't anyone saying we would even be close??¦??¦I think most here would say they were surprised at the outcome being close based on past weeks of play??¦..

I'm not going to talk about years past??¦..we have been through it already

How many past years might that be? How long has it been since we finished in the top 2 of the conference or won the Conference Tournament? Just asking.

We were promised we'd compete for conference championships in every sport, every year. That was why we made all these changes, and overpaid massively for new coaches, higher recruiting budgets, and state-of-the-art facilities.

So now we should be happy with Thursday play-in teams just because it's been a while since we've won the conference?

If we are going to settle for 250 RPI and 300 SOS, and losing teams in almost every sport, we could have hired anyone, or just kept all the numerous coaches we've fired and saved tens of millions of dollars.

The 2013 Fall sports teams did quite well. A conference Tourney championship in Soccer, a 2nd place finish for our women CC team, a 4th place finish in mens CC, and the Volleyball team qualified for the conference Tournament for the first time since 2005. If I remember correctly these results are good for 3rd place in the All Sports race. Basketball and Baseball to be determined. the 2013 arrow is pointed up.

Nobody denies that we have a championship quality soccer program, which it has been for 15 years. It is also the only sport that has not had major personnel changes forced on it.

Congratulations to the Cross Country teams and Coach Marc Burns. It is refreshing to see someone actually improving.

And yes, we can celebrate the volleyball team finally making it all the way up to a tie for 6th place to barely qualify for the tournament for the first time in many years, then promptly getting eliminated by SIU.
However, one of the biggest factors that allowed volleyball to move up to 6th and qualify was last year's champion Creighton leaving the MVC, and being replaced by a far weaker Loyola team that finished behind BU.

maybe but I do get a kick out using a 4th place CC finish something quite good and proof of improvement - when all we heard the past decade was how 4th place was totally unsatisfactory

I would be willing to bet they will finish higher than 4th in the next 6 years.

if your preference is to have a top 4 CC team but a bottom dwelling basketball team and empty seats everywhere then you have your wish...
You are outnumbered, however, 100 to 1 though, by fans who would prefer decent basketball and a winning hoops program

Where in anything that I have posted did I say I was happy with our basketball team. I merely stated that so far the arrow for the fall sports team is pointing up. I believe I said that basketball was yet to be determined, as the conference season is only 4 games old.

All money raising sports for the University. That being said, congrats to those programs for their improvement.

Cross Country Coach Marc Burns and Recruiter/Assistant Coach Matt Esche have a good thing going here. Watch for continued improvement, success at even the top NCAA XC events, and stellar recruits for 2014. This looks like the next BU program up (besides soccer) to draw national attention.

First - I see a huge difference between maybe discussing their opinions and possibly having an opposing opinion vs. actually bashing them personally - which I don't believe I have ever seen.

Get back to me when there's even ONE example of direct criticism of them personally that gets intense, hateful, or if someone talks about "taking them out", shooting objects at them, clotheslining them at a game, or physically attacking them.
Even then - it still wouldn't "get old" until threads exclusively for bashing & filled with small-minded rants reach 350 pages...
