I thought we were more skilled, bigger, and had a bunch of really tuff kids this year. That's what the pj star wrote earlier this year what a joke.

The announcers were from Wichita, not Lee Hall. WAOE just adopted the Wichita broadcast, including their announcers.

Lemon kills the offensive flow with his wild shots, but at the same time he is really the only scoring threat. Bradley's lack of athleticism down low is dreadful.

Drummed is being kind. Bradley was embarrassed. And I believe it is possible to have both a talent differential and a coaching differential. I don't think they are mutually exclusive, and I am sure you will agree.
And if you think our big players are dreadful, then you are ripping our coaches, too. They are nearly all Geno's players.

          Game story from BradleyBraves.com
WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State point guard Fred VanVleet turned in 22 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals, leading #5 Wichita State (18-0, 5-0 MVC) to a 72-50 win Tuesday night.

we do a lot of standing around and the best shots we get much of the time are wild long ones and off balanced fade away hook shots near the basket.
I guess it's time to just set our expectations a little lower and just root to stay out of Thursday... as weak as the MVC is this year with a boatload of 200+ RPI teams, it still may be possible.
The MVC is on the verge of slipping to 12th in conference RPI - I believe that's as weak as the MVC's been in a decade or two..

In the last THREE games we've played in Wichita the point differential is -93 points
In the previous NINE games there totalled, the point differential was -81 points
the blowout losses just continue to pile up - six more already this year - all on the road..

I'm sure the old timers from Wichita who remember the Bradley glory years and all the great match ups between these 2 teams over the years have to feel for us. Always thought their fans were 1st class.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

Their fans that post on here have always seemed knowledgable and respectful.

we have good kids - some of whom have given the fans good games over the past few years but as a whole it's tough to watch them get beat up like this...
we need to get better - the excuses are growing very old, very stale, and very laughable...like a blind squirrel, even the cheerleading press is gonna stumble on it pretty soon...

Wichita had it on cruise control until about the 8:00 mark and then they stepped on the gas and kicked our butt. They have 2 all conference 1st team players in Van Fleet and Early, 2 2nd conference team players in Baker and Cotten and they all play like they want to make the starting lineup instead of already being starters. I think we played hard but they played harder. It's the way the Shockers play that impresses me. Every loose ball on the floor they go after while we barely dive for anything. They set screens which results in dunks while we hardly ever try to do that. Their point guard not only scores but runs the offense, making sure everyone is in the right position while ours committs mind numbing tournovers. They are just a fun team to watch while we are like getting a root canal. Will be an interesting game on Saturday when ISU Blue goes to Witchita. Could be a mind numbing game Friday when SIU comes here.

if we edge SIU like we did with Drake people will get upbeat again...
what gets me a little is that these losses seem to be a total, complete, and unexpected shock to some fans - even tho this has been happening regularly for THREE seasons and virtually each one has been predicted before it happened...

In the UNI-SIU game ex-BU recruit Sean O'Brien - who we passed on - had 15 pts/6 rebs....
In the IU-Wisc game the Hoosier fans stormed the court after a home conference win...

I'll be honest, I felt bad.

Bradley players were hanging their collective heads. The way they carried themselves was terrible.

I remember the great battles year after year with you guys. One of my favorite games of all time was the game in Wichita when 'Hawk dropped like 33 in the first half with the Praylow twins draped all over him. I gave him a standing ovation at halftime....then the Shocks ran the ranked Braves out of the building in the 2nd half. I will see Voicey Winters in my nightmares for years.

I get the feeling Geno is a really good dude, but man he seems lost and reaching right now. They kids play as individuals and there is little to no teamwork. Geno seems positive, but the kids do not.

As a fan of WSU, I want you guys better. It hurts to see your team struggling this bad. These blowout wins do little for anyone.

I hate to see you have to do another reset...but is there any other answer at this point?

Thanks - we have likewise seen the same thing at SIU the past few years and those two teams that accounted for three Sweet Sixteen appearances in the early and mid-part of the decade are now perennial bottom dwellers.
And it's not that anyone has replaced them - the only two teams consistently winning have been Creighton & WSU and only one of them is left.
The Valley would benefit from having all 10 members strong as we had just 5-6 years ago..

the game that followed on ESPN, the Kentucky/Arkansas game, was a great game and the final play was pretty impressive...
Here it is if you haven't seen it.

Of interest - one of Arkansas' players, Coty Clarke, was a #1 recruiting target for Bradley at one time but chose Arkansas -- he gets to start but he hasn't been all that productive - and played only 17 minutes..
He'd have been a stud in the MVC..

Some will say that staying within 22 points of the #5 ranked team on the road was a moral victory. But that is ridiculous. This game was painful to watch, and the program has degenerated into a pathetic state. If the administrations goal was to make Bradley one of the worst teams in the league and irrelevant, and to drive fans and money away, then they have succeeded.
From PJ Star sports expert Kirk Wessler in his Jan. 10, 2012 column following 8th loss in a row at Drake-
"Yes, the Braves are better than they were when the season started two months ago. By a light year or two, they??™re better."

And from the PJ Star 4/26/12, Dave Reynolds-
"Fields and Grier both appear to be difference makers. If Bradley continues to add the right players around them, happy days may be ahead for the Braves after a long dry spell."

Walt Lemon has shown exceptional talent at every level - he has been our best player for 4 years and still is....
he is a preseason Player of the Year candidate...he's on pace to be one of Bradley all-time best players and top 10 in career scoring...

A player of that degree of sustained excellence and proven talent - doesn't just suddenly lose it all and look terrible. Thus you have to look elsewhere for the problem.
The guys writing the reports dance all around it but they are getting warmer...

Kirk Wessler, who usually analyzes and comments on what's up - and who lately has been all roses about Bradley's depth and talent even tho he was pretty negative in past years (prior to 2011) -
Kirk hasn't posted any new entries in his blog since November 9th, but has had a few columns -
He did have a Jan. 8 column about how he's revising his optimism and saying the "rebuild" will take several more years - LINK

Today's article is surprisingly optimistic and positive given the horrible thrashing and poor performance we all saw last night...
claiming we hung with them for 12 minutes is a little bit of a stretch. It's like a guy who tries to outrun a horse claiming he hung with the horse for 6 or 8 steps....
Wichita instantly jumped out to a lead, stretched it quickly to more than double our score and up by 5 before the 1st TV timeout, then gradually started pulling away and had a double-digit lead before 14 minutes were gone and a 20 pt lead with a couple minutes left in the half...

I'm not the type to give up on my team, but I almost feel like that is my/our only play to help force change.
