He could even be the 7th, provided Brown actually plays?

As long as those guys are all healthy, I can't see a lot of ways for Sam Maniscalco to get SIGNFICANT minutes... so if that's the case then a redshirt doesn't seem like a bad idea, if he's willing to do it.
Would you? If I had this ability, I would want to play! If not at Bradley, somewhere!
Let us get off the RED SHIRT, BS. The kids a player, NOT a project.
    Redshirt, Anthony Thompson, not Sam
Well, I would if I figured I had a chance at the pros, but wasn't going to be able to play a lot... Because I'd get to practice for a full year while maintaining eligibility for four years, which would maximize my playing time over my career. I'm not into forcing the kid to redshirt or anything, but if he's going to play 4 minutes a game, and he's willing to RS, then I'd RS him.

Sam will play more than 4 minutes.Warren is a 2, Crouch is a 2, as stated before DeAron is a leaper and can play the 3. Fears at 6'4' also has ups and can play the 1-2, and 3.Of the players you mentioned, only Fears could possibly play the point! Ruffin and Sam will rotate at the point! It will be a beautiful thing!

See, I would figure that Ruff would play most minutes at 1, with Crouch playing 3, Williams playing 3/4ish, and Fears starting at 2. When Ruff sits down, Fears moves to 1, and you end up with Warren in the game at 2... I just think that Sam will be at the end of a long bench as a freshman. If he's not, I'm not going to mad or something, but if he was going to get in mostly for garbage time, then I wouldn't be mad about a redshirt.

I thought the same thing, but if we're playing 4 guards again (which I highly anticipate), there will be room for Sam. Remember, we're losing DA, JJ, and WF. Those are 3 significant contributors. Slide in Sam, Jeremy, Ray, and DeAaron. I agree, Sam may be at the end of that group as far as PT goes, but if he can shoot the lights out, there may be times when we need him (Fears and Williams' 3-point shots are suspect). He also would be greatly needed should win sustain an injury in the backcourt. I have the same fears (no pun intended) of wasting a year like we did with Ray last year, but I think the staff may have a better grasp of things than perhaps they did when Ray was a freshman.

Agreed. Said everything I needed to say anyway. Bottom line, having a great 2006/2007, very very excited about 2007/2008. No matter how we put our offense on the floor and divide up PT, I trust this coaching staff to give us a quality product.

                DEPTH

What is wrong with having 7 quality guards in a 4 guard offense?Do we want to run into a case like Northern Iowa last year and have our guards run out of gas at the end of the year? We could possibly do that this year! Depth at the guard position is tough task for any DI School..
                Next year we could have
the luxury of having 7 guards that are talented at many differnt things, but most important of all they will all be able to score...I as a coach we love to have that headache..You also have to love the defensive pressure you can put on a team for a whole game with that many guards...If Sam can come in and play defense in our system i say no r/s..We know he can score!!

I had the chance this morning to meet Anthony Thompson at the Department of Motor vehicles here in Houston. Real nice guy and well spoken. His father is as tall as he is but much more adult filled out So there could be a chance AT will fill out also, hopefully not in the stomach area though.

He seemed excited about heading to Peoria next year and to be able to play in the Valley. I told him he will be surprised with the large crowds and how Peoria gets into BU basketball. We didnt talk about what his expectations are as far as playing but man is he skinny... Ruff skinny when he was a freshman.

BTW is the DMV not the worst single place on the planet to ever have to spend even one second in?

I thought you guys would enjoy this from Sako's blog:

                      Sam The Man

I really enjoyed watching St. Patrick's belligerent point guard Sam Maniscalco last year but never imagined he could improve this much. For a 6-foot guard to dominate games and score like he does is pretty incredible. He had more than half his team's points (34) in a 65-45 rout of St. Laurence. And, in a true indication of his prowess, opposing coaches are spending more time than they want conjuring up a defense to slow him down. I think Sam the man is going to wind up being an impact player at Bradley.

There are several people I have seen on the Chicago area message boards who are now beginning to place Sam Maniscalco well inside their Top 10 players in the state.
Some of the people outside Chicago still don't know about Sam because he doesn't play in the Public League, and in all likelihood because he isn't a UIUC or IU recruit.

Sam and his team face another tough test today.
Proviso East plays Chicago St. Patrick High School today in the opening round of the Proviso West Holiday Basketball Tournament.--
