  • BU entrance requirements-Macari Brooks

BU must recruit and sign great players if our BB program is ever going to get back on track. We MUST have Macari Brooks. While I am 100% in favor of having excellent academic standards, we must find a way to sign and enroll Macari Brooks. BU needs to be flexible enough to get this done. Great players and a winning BB program will have a major positive impact on game attendance so lets go get him!!!

It may not be a BU standard he has to get through- it very easily could be an NCAA standard...

I disagree here, playing for and attending BU is an accomplishment. Allowing players to play for BU who don't meet the most basic of requirements diminishes the work of all the kids who really do work to get into BU. Our acceptance rate has skyrocketed since our new president took over and lowered our admission standards. If a player still can't get in they should not be at BU IMO. I do think commitment to an extracurricular activity (Basketball) is a great plus on a kids admission app, but basic standards - gpa, ACT/SAT, credits from JUCO, etc. have to be held. I don't think Macari Brooks is important enough to our team, nor our teams success on the court important enough to BU's mission as a university, to 'find ways' to admit students.

I will agree that many successful teams do 'find ways' for revenue-athletes to get accepted, and it definitely makes it easier to be a powerhouse program, I just don't want that to be the type of program BU is.

A school can have good Academic standards and still have a good basketball team. Alot of times they go hand in hand. If the high school is run right a player has to maintain a grade point average just to stay playing on the team forcing him to pay attention to studies. The school just has to find the players that fit the standards

I couldn't whole-heartedly disagree more with what you said.

give Muller a call - find out how he got all those kids that everyone else passed on because of their academics and see if we can learn his secret to getting them into ISU

I guess my thought is that for people who want to see the best basketball players instead of student-athletes, is that there are many professional basketball leagues which offer that, and they will gladly take new fans. But college basketball is supposed to be just that, a collection of men or women who represent the university - and I desperately want them to win - but not at the cost of representing the university poorly. I think BU should be able to field a winning team without lowering their admission standards and especially without falsifying information to the NCAA.

So I guess you do believe BU should allow basketball players to attend Bradley that wouldn't otherwise have been admitted? Or that we should 'find ways' to admit them? Tons of programs do it, some extremely blatantly, and most fans are in your boat, if that weren't the case guys like Calipari couldn't be hired. But I personally have pretty extreme disdain for them and don't want BU to become one of those programs.

Is it the grades or is it the transfer of certain credits form junior college? It has been mentioned several times that Bradley does not have a physical education program to train future coaches.

Macari Brooks held to just 5 pts in Blinn's loss to Trinity Valley

There is a problem with your thought. Two of them started the year not playing because of this and one has since been in-eligible for academics.

Macari played again last night - Blinn lost to Navarro 96-84..
Macari Brooks was the leading scorer with 20 pts on 8-15, and 5 rebs

season avg - 17 games, 21.1 ppg, 60% fg shooting, 77% from FT line, doesn't take a lot of 3's
                            6.2 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1.8 steals
