  • NCAA Making recommendations to eliminate immediate eligibility waivers

The ongoing review of transfer rules by the Division I Leadership Council has shifted toward tightening up transfer waivers and graduate transfers.

The NCAA Division I leadership Council is urging NCAA to adopt new TIGHTER restrictions on immediate eligibility waivers...effectively banning all of them - even for grad students...
making every D-I transfer have to sit out a full year to gain eligibility at their new school..

This is a win for Mid-major programs. I don't entirely agree with it, but it does help smaller schools for sure.

Here are some statistics I found

      2011-12:
Undergrad waiver requests for immediate eligibility after transfer - 52
      34 were granted, 18 denied

Grad student waiver requests for immediate eligibility after transfer - 8
7 were granted, 1 was denied

      2012-13:
Undergrad waiver requests for immediate eligibility after transfer - 62
39 were granted, 23 were denied

Grad student waiver requests for immediate eligibility after transfer - 16
15 were granted, 1 was denied

      2012-13 saw 450 D-I players transfer

Hope they make them all sit. Mid-Majors as much as we don't like the term should not be a feeding ground minor league for the Big Turds.

but the other way around - almost every MVC school is benefitting from a transfer who came from somewhere else...

We have Omari, Fields..Drake has Daniels, Evansville just got Brzoja, ISU's had gobs of transfers- Oguchi, Odzic, Blue, Allen, Allen, Indiana State, like Creighton - got a Gonzaga Transfer (Arop), Loyola got Doyle from Kansas, UNI's Washpun came from Tennessee, SIU's Jackson came from Wyoming, Wichita has Coleby

I don't recall any undergrad waiver requests for immediate eligibility for any BU transfer. It wouldn't seem to bother us based on past history.
