  • Anthony Fields Is The Key

Kid has played on a higher level than anyone on the roster. Signed with an ACC team and lead a high school team full of high major players to two titles. We have only seen flashes of him this season. At this point he needs to get a chance so we can accurately judge him. Lemon and Bell play hard but are terrible point guards. If Fields can get Grier, Lemon and Pickett the ball we still have a chance. Not sure what kind of leader he is but it's worth a shot. We just might find something to save our season. His emergence would be key and open a lot of opportunities for scorers on the roster. Early in the year I wanted to blame him, but until he gets a shot I'm pulling for this kid to make a jump. Geno can't go into the MVC with the same strategy that has us at 5-7 now.

Brave444, I can only agree with your first two sentences and your last. Don't you think the coaching staff has seen enough of AF to evaluate that he is not the answer to be our PG. I also agree Walt and Bell are not the PG answer, so IMO we don't have an answer. Wake Forest made just as big a mistake in recruiting AF to that level as we did. I'm not saying we shouldn't give him a try but everything I've heard from some close sources ,he isn't the answer. Think we're gonna have to wait till next year to see a PG. Hard to believe we haven't been able to get a PG in here when it is obvious there was ample playing time. Most likely starter minutes.

I think it may be time to give Anthony a start and see what he can do with a more significant role on this team.

I won't say it won't happen but I think the coaches know what they'll get. It might be worth a shot but I'm not holding my breath. One thing in his favor is we know the other way is not working.

Pretty sure the staff didn't see Swopshire putting up 12 pts in short minutes either!

I'm sure every staff plays who they think will help them win....but in some cases it wouldn't seem to hurt anything to play a guy who maybe hasn't done anything really well but not played bad either in practice.......Saturday would seem to be the case to me.....we need a win in the worst way going into the UNI....I don't see how shaking the lineup could hurt...

Here's the issue though....you start AF and Walt at the two...and sit OG the best shooter right now?.....sit Walt and maybe pouts worse than when he does on the floor? I wonder how Walt would respond to not starting

I do think that's what they expected when they recruited him. They probably didn't think it would take this long for him to contribute.

If we were to start AF and WL at the two I guess you could move OG over to the three. It would make us small but ISU plays 4 guards. Does that sound familiar but it seems to be working for them.

I agree and the fans hardly have the ability to know all the factors - but as fans we can always add our opinions...
just like Jeremy Lin was overlooked until he actually got a chance to play and just like some recruits (Alec Peters) are overlooked until they get a chance to show what they have - sometimes the fans' opinions have some validity

My point exactly Coyote! Give the kid a shot is all I'm saying. Haven't seen him play great, but not bad either. Chicago State he did have 4 turnovers but you could see he was getting comfortable as he followed up with some nice finishes and helped get our guys shots. Swopshire played without getting yanked and he scores 12 points. Did the staff see that? We all hear about how hard the kid works let's see what he can do with more than 11 minutes. Someone said next year? Listen, waiting will get Geno fired unfortunately. We have to act now as if we don't have a next year.

I really thought Anthony Fields would be our starting point guard this season. With his high school background and Wake Forest wanting him there must have been something there at one time

If he is even half as good at dribbling as he is in this video, he may be our key to breaking the full court press/traps.

If he starts attacking the basket and finishing then the staff will have no choice also steals are good. lol AF or KDB its there for the taking and preseason I was team KDB and still am but Id say AF is winning right now and maybe he's gonna get more time on the floor. Whatever happens it needs to happen NOW tomorrow night! C'mon BU!
