I have never seen so many fans in a lower bowl sitting with arms folded - pretty quiet crowd - students obviously gone...
also lots of open seats even at midcourt in the lower bowl.
ISU goes on a run and takes a 27-23 lead - DePaul is not a very good defensive team.
The Blue Demons rank last in the Big East in scoring defense, scoring margin, and they are last in giving up a 46.4% shooting rate on defense
Zeisloft hits a three to end 1st half and ISU leads 37-34
ISU's Reggie Lynch hits only 43.5% of his FT's - I would send the guy to the line as often as he touched the ball - sorta hack-a-Shaq-Lynch
..both teams playing wild, undisciplined offense - throwing up circus shots on a regular basis...
ISU is now 20-60 - shooting just 33%
btw - I just checked DePaul's seven wins...Grambling, UW-M, Wright State, Oregaon St., Chicago State in OT, Houston Baptist, Florida Atlantic - wow, what a bunch of softies...
Box score for the Illinois State Redbirds vs. DePaul Blue Demons NCAAM game from December 22, 2013 on ESPN. Includes all points, rebounds and steals stats.
At least the ISU students didn't storm the floor again (there weren't a lot of them). Instead, the players went up into the student section to celebrate with the fans.
Nice win for ISU. They have a lot of talent, and it's starting to come together.
There is one more MVC game tonight-North Carolina Central at Wichita State at 7:00 PM-
ISU wins 69-64, DePaul had two great chances at the end but one ended with a bad dribble drive right into a double-team and a turnover & the other was a long 3 pts shot before even trying a pass...
DePaul fans have every right to want Purnell out of there...

ESPN Chicago's Scott Powers comments on Oliver Purnell's hot seat-
Watched this game and was very impressed with the talent ISU put together after an almost complete house cleaning. I was also very impressed with the Hamilton kid. I think we came in second on him. At least that's what I've heard. He leads all Big East Frosh in scoring and rebounding. If we could have landed him and Peters , what a big difference that would make in our season. Oh well we didn't land him and never had a shot at Peters. Those are two pretty good Freshmen.

Wichita is good but they don't seem to have the confidence in their bench they have had in years past...
This was NC Central and yet the Shocker starters played very heavy minutes with practically no help from the bench..
Hopefully this wears on them by the conference season.
They have four players averaging 27.5 minutes per game or more - no MVC team has more than that, most have just 1 or 2..and some have none.
(we have four players logging similar heavy minutes showing lack of depth, but then we haven't clobbered a lot of teams by 15-20)
DePaul is a basket case..but what happened is kind of ironic...even a little eerie..
They were in such a hurry to dump Wainwright and bring in someone else - that they threw a ton of $$ and hired Purnell - who was 9-7 in the ACC but arguably a good coach.
Now - FOUR years into the Purnell era at DePaul - they are not only embarrassingly bad - suffering embarrassing 20, 30 & 40 point losses - even at home...
And even now - the THREE BEST players he has can be attributed to the coaching staff that was there before he arrived. (Wainwright & Billy Garrett).
BUT -- they are reportedly locked in to Oliver Purnell for 7-year contract - so they're paying him over $2 mil per year 'til 2017!!
What a dilemma - plus even if they can limp thru this season they lose their two best players Melvin & Young.
Their best bet is to bring in a guy full time as head coach who is a Chicago identity - I am surprised they didn't think of that..
..then get playing in their new downtown Chicago arena and land the top Chicago kids.
In previous seasons, it wasn't unusual to have starters averaging 27-30 minutes a game for us. Currently, Early is at 27.5, Baker 29.3, VanVleet 32.3, Cotton 28.8. Only Fred seems a little high and that's because we lost our main backup PG before the season to the heart issue. We have 3 others averaging over 16 and two more that are in double digits as well. I'm not too concerned about it. And Wessel has been starting to play more and more minutes which will help the others keep their minutes down. Baker and VanVleet should lead the team as they're the main ball handlers with Cotton as their backup.
You guys have 3 over 30. 8 in double digits.
Drake has 3 guys over 30, although one is out for the rest of the year. Drake has 11 over 10 if you count Ricks.
Evansville has 2 over 30. 8 over 10.
Illinois State has nobody over 28. 10 over 10.
Indiana State only has 1 over 30. 8 over 10.
Loyola has 3 over 30. 7 over 10.
MSU doesn't have anyone over 28. 12 over 10.
UNI has 1 over 30. 8 over 10, but one of those guys has only played in 4 games.
SIU has 2 over 30. 7 over 10.
I fail to see where our "lack of depth" is an issue. Most appear to go 7 or 8 deep while we go 9. Five of the other nine teams have more 30+ minute guys than we do as well.
I will admit that we don't have as much production from our bench at the moment as last year when looking at PPG, but some of that will come as we have guys capable of producing a little more than they currently are. But those bench guys all come in and play D and do the other things we need. Coach mixes and matches well so that we always have multiple threats so the bench doesn't really hurt us. We have 5 guys capable of putting up 20 on any given night as well, so I'm not too concerned about it.

Hope it doesn't wear on them by the conference season. IMO, they are the class team of the conference. Don't see another team even close.
Subgod haven't been able to watch WSU play much. I am curious in your opinion do they look bored and maybe conference play will rejuvenate them?
I've seen them play and I've been impressed. They are really GOOD. Bench may be a little weak but some of them probably would be a big help to us. Lastly I have always thought minutes played were over rated. These kids are 18 -22 years old if they can't play 30 plus minutes shame on the coaching staff for not having them in playing shape. Terry Knapp ,years ago, would never have had that problem ,but than again he was way ahead of his time.

By no means do I think that we've reached our ceiling, but I've been pretty happy with what I've seen. I think some of the slow starts can be attributed to other teams being amped up to play us and us just not responding as well as we should. But we've been wearing teams down for the most part and taking care of business in the 2nd half.
I think they will be more focused when Valley play starts because they'll have a good idea of what to expect. We'll most likely lose a game or two but I don't know where or to who. If either Wiggins or Wessel find their shooting stroke again that'll go a long way for us as well. Both are very good shooters but have been way off to start the season. They're doing the other things though.
And as was pointed out by Wily, I'm not overly concerned with the minutes. 3G pushes these guys hard all year and they're in excellent shape. I don't think it's going to be a major factor. Plus, we'll have games against Loyola and some others where we'll be able to play the bench a little more.
