we play USF on Dec. 28 but they had quite a game last night with a finish that was quite notable...
USF appeared to lose the game to FGCU IN double overtime on an amazing JL to Hersey-like long distance pass and buzzer beater...
only to have the basket nullified and USF wins!!
Since the time on the clock was 0.3 seconds the ruling was that it had to be a tip and only a tip and NOT a catch-and-shoot.
Watch & see - it's pretty close - maybe it could have been ruled a tip but Mike Sanzere was standing right there and waived it off ruling it was a catch-and-shoot.
BUT - if you watch and stop and start you will see that the FGCU player does indeed catch the ball at 0.3, and release it before 0.1 so it's a tough break...
BTW - the rule in question is nicknamed the Trent Tucker Rule - and it was based on an incident in a BULLS vs. Knicks game that I recall well.
The homer Knicks clock-operator allowed Trent the privilege of catching and shooting with under 0.3 seconds left because of a late start to the clock.
So to eliminate the homer influence the NBA adopted a rule that any time of 0.3 sec or less can only be a tip.
