3 games in the MVC tonight. Cleanthony Early led Wichita St with 28 and they shot 25-27 from the FT line as the Shockers won at Alabama 72-67 to stay undefeated. Missouri St wasn't as lucky, got killed on the boards 51-30 and on the scoreboard, 90-60 at Louisville. SIU lost at Murray State 73-65 despite Desmar Jackson getting 28 points.

Wichita State did not play their best game tonight at Alabama, but it was still good enough to pull out a win. They have only got 2 more non-conference games- both at home against North Carolina Central, and a Davidson team that will be 4-8 when they visit Wichita. They will almost certainly enter MVC play with a 13-0 record. I doubt they can run the table in the MVC but it's hard to see them losing more than 2 or 3 of their road games. he last team to go undefeated in MVC play was Bradley in 1985-86.

SIU makes it close but loses to Murray State 73-65, Desmar Jackson 28 pts
Missouri State scheduled bold and went to Louisville to get beat 90-60 - this was a big blowout real early
Wichita wins at Alabama - 72-67, Early 26, is this a home & home?
Getting back to the SIU game - there appears to be a little issue...that's kinda blowing up on the internet and getting national attention..
In the post game interview that you can listen to - SIU head coach Barry Hinson kinda rips into his players and their effort calling them "soft" & "mama's boys" ..and a lot of other funny stuff
...a lot of people think it is funny but it sure doesn't build a team with this stuff going on......
after that one of the SIU players rips Hinson in his twitter -
"I can't believe the little man had the nerve to call us mama's boys. Smh. I guess this is where Our team learns to point the finger."

Southern Illinois head basketball coach Barry Hinson was not pleased with his team's effort in a 73-65 loss to Murray State to fall to 2-8 on the season. Afterwards, he took part in one of the most memorable, entertaining, bizarre press conferences of the year. This one checks all the boxes. It's a dash of Read more...
Yeah, this is reallllllllly not good for SIU

For the record, Davante Drinkard is now a senior, and he may be the biggest post player in the MVC at 6'9" and 250+ pounds. He gets plenty of playing time for the depleted SIU team, yet still averages just 3 ppg and 2.6 rpg, and has attempted only 4 free throws all year. Last year he averaged 1.9 ppg and 1.9 rpg. I'd say Barry's description is apt.

a little more coverage - and Barry is 100% right - just not sure it is wise to air dirty laundry in such a public way
..on a busy day this wouldn't even get reported, but it was slow and not many games last night

To answer one question, yes, the Alabama game is a home and home. The Tide come to Wichita next year. Location of game is yet to be determined. It depends on how the schedule shapes up as we will play one game downtown at Intrust Bank Arena.
To the Hinson point, I'd like to say that I understand where he's coming from. We all know Barry is a good guy and not one to go off like this. Which leads me to believe that he's 100% right in his discription of the team and that they simply aren't listening and responding to what he and his staff are doing in practice and that's why it's come to a public shaming.
And if Drinkard doesn't think he's soft, he's full of crap. That might explain his weight though...

I do agree but as we all know - every kid even as far down as a JV-er - still thinks he is the next coming... and is not going to go to a school where the head coach publicly humiliates him..
and if they see that SIU & Barry Hinson publicly air complaints about players and cast them in a bad light - this is severely going to hurt their ability to land kids.
Seems, unfortunately, that the days are gone when you could actually recruit moderately talented but hard working kids - who would STAY loyal & "coach them up" like Greg Smith, Marcus Pollard, and Jeremy Crouch..
Now they are mostly prima donnas and have to be coddled or they won't come, won't produce, and won't stay..
How else do you explain this phenomenon of hiring assistants with "connections" -

You could be right. It will definitely scare off some kids. But he's also shown that he wants hard workers and some kids want to play for a coach that'll push them. Sounds like SIU is full of kids that can't handle that.
Generally speaking, throwing the team under the bus isn't good, but if everything else has failed, it's a last resort option that I can support. Especially when the evidence is there. Sometimes, players will react in a positive way to this. It's no guarantee but it's now put up or shut up time for these guys. Prove the man right or wrong with how you play.
Those who respond will be rewarded with playing time. Those who don't, won't be there next year and good luck finding someone who wants to take in someone like that.
I will say though that I was on the SIU board a bit ago and they seem to be split on it.
