  • New York Knicks - cursed??

I can't help but wonder if the Knicks are cursed...

Of course there are people who think they are....cursed because of their hideous alternate jerseys (LINK), cursed because of their rigging of the 1985 draft lottery to grab Patrick Ewing (LINK), cursed just because they are greedy and try to buy a championship team?

Most of us Bulls fans know why they are cursed...it all started on one night in 1994....for those who are too young....

Many Bulls fans pronounced a curse on the Knicks at the time of the most infamous bad call ever - the Hue Hollins foul call on Scottie Pippen that handed the 1994 playoff series to the Knicks...a call that still bothers many Bulls fans...

The Knicks had good teams in that Pat Riley era-- but very soon after that the Knicks started a down hill slide that has lasted, really, until now and seems to have no real end in sight--

By the late 90's the Knicks were starting a stretch of many sub-.500 seasons..
After a 6-year stretch where they went - 327-160 in the early 1990's, the next eighteen seasons up thru this current one, they have amassed a combined record of 558-730.
They currently have one of the NBA's worst records and fans are unhappy.
Plus - all the injuries, the terrible trades - especially of top draft picks, the bad & expensive long term deals they sign with unproductive players, the Isiah Thomas era & lawsuits, the bad draft picks (Michael Sweetney, Maciej Lampe, Slavko Vranes, Trevor Ariza, Dijon Thompson, Mardy Collins), etc..... - the Knicks seem cursed

I lived in Brooklyn throughout the 90's, and I can remember people sitting in the coffee shop saying, "We need to get rid of Ewing and Van Gundy".

How did that work out for them.

There is one way to win in the NBA - draft well.

Knicks may unload salary - Carmelo could end up with Chicago Bulls?
Even a record-setting performance couldn't keep the focus off Carmelo Anthony 's future. Shortly after Anthony erupted for a career-high 62 points —breaking Bernard King's ...

Bulls would have problems affording him. I doubt if Melo would be willing to take that much a pay cut. They would have to put off bringing Mirotic over next year. They are very high on him. I don't know if Melo is worth losing Taj (cap) and not having Mirotic. Mirotic is an unknown but has proved himself capable in international competition, including USA teams.

I do realize they could amnesty Carlos Boozer. But I don't know if it would help that much. They also have to include money for one or two first round draft choices. I think there is little chance they could get three first round draft choices this year.

I have listened to the sports geniuses on Chicago sports talk radio talk about the Bulls acquiring Carmello since the Derrick Rose injury. It seems they are all in favor of it, but I am not. Yes, he scores a lot of points, but it seems every team he is on underachieves, and he is the biggest reason. He makes all his teammates less effective. Nobody in the NBA takes more shots per game as he does, but his shooting percentage is much lower than the other top scorers in the NBA, as are his assist numbers. He doesn't like to play defense, and until this season, he has always been a mediocre rebounder. And in the postseason, his shooting percentage numbers are much worse than his regular-season numbers.
He doesn't like to play injured- the only year he ever played in all 82 games was his rookie season, and he averages missing 10-12 games a year. Even with his recent 62 point game, the Knicks have won only 16 of 43 games this season. 7 of the 8 seasons he played in Denver, they didn't make it out of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. And 2 of the 3 seasons he played in new York, they exited in the first round. IMO he is a selfish gunner who will not help the Bulls.

more bad news for the Knicks...

they are good enough that they won't get a top draft pick
but really bad enough that fans are ticked...

now this -- of course one of the things that makes the Knicks the Knicks is having popular celebs at courtside...like Spike Lee....

then there's this guy - a rapper with a history a mile long of anti-social and violent behavior - nearly gets into it with one of his entourage...

If the Knicks want this stuff right at courtside it'll cost them in the long run...
